From Matt M – Here are some photos of the Delorean I just purchased last week! I bought it off the original owner’s son. The original title was registered to the owner’s company. The owner was a very well known stockbroker in the 80’s and 90’s (Shocker). He was known as “The Bandit” of Wall street. I found out about the car on craigslist in the North Jersey section. There was no detailed description or any picture, but it was close to home so I decided to take a look.
The car was located at a 12 acre gated estate. I never would imagine that a Delorean would be sitting in the garage covered in dust having not moved in over 20 years. The son was the last to drive it and he believes that was back in 1992.
Looking the car over, I realized there was only 21,000 original miles on the car and the frame was mint! I looked at the vin plate on the driver side door sill and it was stamped DEC 1982. I previously had some knowledge about Deloreans, such as they only made them for 3 years, 1981-83. The owner thought it was an ’82 but with being a DEC car it had to be an ’83.
After going home that day and going back in fourth in my head if I wanted another project , I decided to do some research on the VIN. That is when I found out the car was the 3rd from last Delorean ever built. This car is 20102 and the last one built was 20104. This car was also one of the few missing cars on the Delorean registry.
The car is now in my possession and I have started going through the electrical system and next will be the fuel setup. I also found the original window sticker under the spare tire. I look forward to getting this obscure car back on the road unless “where we’re going, we don’t need roads”!
I want to thank Matt for sharing his find with us and I can’t wait to see it once he has it cleaned up and back on the road! Wish him luck! And if you have a barn find story of your own, we would love to see it, so be sure to send us an email about it.
Excellent find. Keep us informed
Really nice find. Would love to see more pics after you get it rolling again!
Back and forth.
I once got a screaming deal on a dmc. This grandma had saved 3 cars, one for each grandkid. Soon enough they sold all 3. I offered 4grand and walked out the door. The folks were all cracked out and refused my offer. When I was at my car door I heard a little voice. “Mister! Mister! Is that offer still good?” Said the adorable young blonde…
& the car came home with me. I hope the girl kicked her habit, she was still cute-

I wonder what Matt had to pay for his….
“That’s Heavy” What a great find!! Sure wish that I had this kind of luck!!
I bought one back in 1998 with 7k original miles. The battery was dead so I took a chance on buying it “as is”. Obviously it was mint with the exception of needing new door shocks and a couple other small items. Could never get it to run. Owned it for less than a year. Bought it for 6k and sold it for 12k….”as is”. Did all right but wished I had it back.
