This 1971 Chevy Camaro Z28 is one of only 4,862 made – yet spent a couple of decades in a barn that had been converted from a pig pen. It may have been saved around 2015 and cleaned up enough to take some titles at places like the Bristol Motor Speedway. We’re told it needs more attention to be perfect (like bodywork and paint) but must be getting the job done just fine as-is. As the story goes, Andrew Erichsen’s uncle bought the Z28 in 1992. It seems that the uncle was both a car collector and a car hauler. He started collecting muscle machines back when they were still just used cars, not the valuable collectibles many have turned into today. Once the car got home (we don’t know where), the Chevy apparently went into storage in “The Hog House” aka pig pen/barn. Fast forward a few years and Andrew was in a position to inherit the Camaro, so he sold his ’99 edition to make room for it. It was pulled from long-term storage and then cleaned up.
The original color of the Z28 was Sunflower Yellow and it was repainted in the 1980s in a color that was “close but not right.” That paint remains on the car and seems to present well (see the last photo), but we’re told it has faults as does the body. Because real-deal Z28 motors of that era had solid-lifter camshafts, Andrew decided to replace it with something more modern, but not permanently. The old V8 has been retained for a likely future rebuild. A “re-manned” LQ4 6.0-liter engine is under the hood now along with a 4L80-E transmission. The rear end has had a swap as well.
We’re glad to see that this Camaro is back out in the open (at least as of 2020 when the story first came to light). It looks pretty good right now and we assume that Andrew is building his war chest so he can go about taking this desirable Z28 to the next level!

That’s a crying shame what happen to it. Hopefully he changed the interior. How about an update on that Andrew. Inquiring minds are curious.
Yellow on tan RS, had the same car in the mid 80’s, mine was a 70-1/2, just an RS, no z28 and no deck stripes or spoiler (thank the stars) and I loved loved loved that car. I wish I still had it but alas some mindless idiot decided to crash into me totaling it in the late 80s. Sigh.
Maybe one day I’ll find another and fall in love again.

An early desirable Z with a boat anchor hyd sbc and auto >> is about as desirable as a Boss 302 with a std hyd 302 and auto.

lynn, I feel the same(there only original once same for your first one!) . In H/S my love for plymouth 340 dusters started with a ragon red 340/4spd looks like the red model you may be seen-that is what i head It went away.and my have pass through,I,ve almost finish a in violet FC7 3sp manual 340 duster. For sure nice through. I should say about the camaro. This was already goon through so easy to get it cleaned up wish itcould have this on.
