This 1989 Ford F-150 Supercab is described as a barn find, having belonged to an older drive before apparently being parked with just 70,000 miles on the clock. Back when it was new, it was likely one of the pricier trucks on the lot, as it comes loaded up with options. The color scheme reminds me of the Big Foot trucks back in the day, and one can’t help but wonder if a previous owner was attempting to channel that look when ordering it at the dealer. It still looks tough today on those polished wheels and is available here on eBay with bidding at $5,800 and the reserve unmet.
The matching bed cap always tells me that someone wanted this truck to look good and be functional, and if an older gentleman bought it, well – they tend to swing for the fences when it comes to owning the best version of their preferred truck model. The bodywork on this F150 looks superb, with no signs of dents or paint damage. The paint itself looks very consistent going up and down the sides, and with well under 100,000 miles, it seems likely that it remains original. The chrome bumpers look quite sharp as well.
The interior presents just as well as the outside, with clean carpets, nicely preserved simulated woodgrain on the dash, and (surprisingly) bucket seats with good cloth. A dash mat protects the dash pad, which hopefully remains crack-free. The seller notes it comes with all power options and that the previous owner was a non-smoker, and given it says “…everything is in working order,” one would assume the air conditioning still cools. The paint job is a custom order two-tone scheme, featuring “Bright Regatta” and “Twilight Blue”, and it looks to match up nicely inside the door jambs.
The engine is the powerful and long-lived 5.8L 351 V8, and it looks to have an aftermarket cold air intake. This is a bit of a surprise considering the rest of the truck appears to be bone-stock, but even an old guy should be allowed to have some fun. The seller notes the spare tire is like new and that the truck has been garaged all of its life, which certainly shows in the photos. While it’s not the rarest or even the most desirable model, finding a clean extended cab F150 of this generation isn’t easy to do considering how many were used as workhorses. Bidding does seem light at the moment, so hopefully it will clear the reserve soon.
A Super Cab long bed is one long truck.
I had a ’96 Super Cab short bed,& it was easy
to drive, although a long bed probably drives
smoother.I love that color,& the 351 is the engine
to have.
I sold mine a couple of years ago,but had I known
how things would turn out,I’d have kept it.
Attractive truck, very well preserved, nicely equipped. Should bring a solid price. Back when one could get these styles of two-tone paint combinations. Today, on new Fords, you can get a single brownish-gray as a lower-body contrast, but that’s all.
I love this series of Ford trucks. I had a ’91 XLT that was the best truck I ever owned. The only things that would make this truck better are: 300 I-6 and a long bed. Short bed trucks are for posers. There, I’ve said it.
IMO, I think ‘step sides’ are for posers. LOL
4×4 Never liked the front end on this year, Looks Flat. To each his own.
Wow, it must have been a clean barn!
Nice clean truck with all the options you could want. I like the two-tone exterior and the bucket seat interior is sharp. Personally, I don’t care for extended cab pickups as I prefer a regular cab but to each his own. I’ve had several Ford pickups and prefer them over other makes. My current pickup is a ’95 F150 XLT that is well optioned with a 302ci and a 5-speed. I’ve owned it for 21 years and have done some restoration work to it but it’s all stock. It’s a keeper.
It has a short bed but I’m definitely not a poser.
Ad reads 70,000 miles, but Auto Check shows 170,000.
Thank goodness in the comments above we have Dennis to advise us on the odometer reading and the prolific steve clinton to advise of conditions inside the barn. These guys really know their stuff, swell guys to meet at a car show I’m sure…
Really love this one. Had a 1990 4×4 single cab 302 White with the same blue interior. Bought it ’94, then the kids came a couple years later and it went away in favor of the Plymouth Voyager (puke!). These are very solid runners and very simple to work on, troubleshoot and maintain. My son loved his ’92 351 4 speed F250. Enlisted to Navy, had to let it go. Best trucks ever made…
Thank you…I think. (?)
I’m thinking perhaps that was sarcasm, not a compliment.
Always loved the 302. Bulletproof in my mind. Between my late father and myself, we’ve owned 3 of them. Never an ounce of problems
This has the wrong rear bumper, should have the thick black rub strip with the chrome step (matching to the front). ’92+ removed the rub strip or is an aftermarket style bumper.
Hard to find good replacements as they don’t repo the style with the rub strip (with punched rectangular holes for the rub strip snaps) so left with scrap yards and parting out truck ads for a model correct 1987-1991 proper one…that’s what I had to do for mine.
Nice looking truck, reserve not met, maybe we will see it relisted.
I don’t suppose the seller would be willing to make a charitable donation to a 20-year army vet with multiple trips to Iraq and Afghanistan??
