Barn Fresh: 1955 Chevrolet Sedan

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The seller of this 1955 Chevrolet originally purchased it as a gasser project and is now offering it to someone else to complete. Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, there isn’t a lot of information regarding the history of the car other than it was stored in a barn for years. It can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $5,600. There are a few crucial items that need addressing right away, but overall, it looks like a good opportunity for someone. Let’s take a closer look and thanks to Ikey H. for the tip on this sweet tri-five.

The interior looks original but is missing some pieces. You can see the passenger door panel needs addressing. There are also some rust issues and the seller says the entire floor needs replacing. Hopefully, the rust issues aren’t bad enough that the frame isn’t usable. Other than the rust, the upholstery looks original. It probably wouldn’t be too bad if it was cleaned up. The headliner, on the other hand, is completely falling down and will need to be removed and/or replaced.

The ad says the engine is a small block V8 from the 1960s. Unfortunately, it doesn’t run and there is no indication of whether it has the potential to fire up again. That’s okay though if you were going to make a gasser out of this thing, you probably won’t be using a small block! How about dropping in a 572 crate engine or 454 blown rat?

Along with the floor pans, you can see some rust ahead of the rear tire in this photo. This car certainly looks like a pretty big project. How about a rat rod or gasser? What would you do with this car? Is it too far gone to do a full restoration on?

The cars is straddled by a lift yet they couldn’t be bothered to take any pictures if the undercarriage. That pretty much tells you all you need to know about the condition of the frame.

What appears to be a fairly low initial purchase price doesn’t make this car a good deal.

As I remind myself – it’s not the purchase price, it’s how much I’ll have to put into it to complete it.

    I thought a sedan was a 4-door car?

Sedan refers to the center post. It’s a 2 Dr sedan with the center post, hardtop without center post

$500 for a 55 Chevy 2 door post…I’d give him $5000 for that car, and I might just do that!

This is probably a three day rebuild where drivetrain & glass is pulled on first day & second day is sandblast day & vacuum & prime day too. Third day is welding whatever holes & patches, or panels needs doing.

Forth day it gets towed to the neighbourhood body shop for more primer & paint. Given the condition of the overall outside body shell the body shop would likely have it back to you finished in less than one week.

And if you are a cheap bastard like me you know that black primer is fine for this car for the first five years or so.

Rebuild drivetrain whilst car is at body shop.

    Beer me!

Pretty poor job of staging the photos. BF has become a used car lot. True barn finds are few and the flippers with cars still on trailers.
Guess I was lucky not buying a ‘membership’.

If it’s a court ordered sale and you have to give the money to your wife, you should be selling it for 50 bucks.

1955 2 door posts are not cheap. I have looked at a bunch of them in the $15,000-$20,000 range and they are not very great condition. This car would make a perfect project car for a gasser/hot rod….but no way would I stick $100,000 into it to make it look factory new again. You could make a Two Lane Blacktop or a Rat Rod Gasser with this car. I’m actually very interested in this car. I have been looking for a 55 for awhile now. Even $10,000 55’s are rough shape.
