Barn Wood Find: Custom Woodie Wagon

Real Woodie Wagon

This may not be a barn find, but it very well could have been made out of a barn! It’s based off a ’36 Ford and was built by a disabled vet back in the 90s. He has since passed away, but his creation lives on. The seller mentions that it gets quite a bit of attention everywhere it goes and I can only imagine. They are asking $24,000 here on craigslist, and that includes a trailer to haul it around on. After the initial novelty wears off, I’m not sure what could be done with it. The trailer would be nice to have though. Thanks goes to Gerrit B for the tip!

Very nicely done wow! Functioning wood hood scoop, and air cleaner–nice detail. There are toy trucks made of wood, this looks like the inverse, a truck-sized toy. I have never seen one before. Really cool.

I love the truck and the vet’s woodworking skills are absolutely amazing! I’ve marveled at the mechanical abilities of car owners on some of the cars profiled on here, thinking that’s a lost era where guys just had amazing abilities to create “ratrods” with very little tech knowledge compared to our “information age” where everything is available online except the actual hand’s on experience. I’d love to know more about this vet; it would have been an honor to meet him and see him at work in his shop. That said, you know its always hilarious when the seller has to tell us that “The price is very reasonable at …..” To me, that’s the first indication that the price is NOT reasonable. Say you buy the package deal and then start hitting car shows. What’s the first question asked? How about: “Wow, did you make this?” Showing off someone’s art work would get old quick. Seller needs to find a museum to donate it to, and then sell the trailer by itself. As Jesse said: “after the novelty wears off, what then?”

The only time you’ll need to sand & varnish your truck for the big car show.

I agree 100% with Cassidy. “after the novelty wears off, what then?” WHO is his right mind would want it? And for WHAT possible purpose? If the heirs of the builder don’t want it, guess what…

I wonder if a termite inspection is included?

I think if I somehow ended up with this in my yard I’d remove the usable 1936 Ford stuff and replace it with some late-model Honda crap, then donate it to some worthy charity to auction off… and let the next owner worry about how to get rid of it.

I’d file this under “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.”

Maybe the appraisers at Antiques Roadshow would consider this folk art, and value it on that basis. I just call it pointless. I hope the old guy had fun building it, and got enjoyment from it. The result is one man’s vision of something, I’m not sure what, and unfortunately that vision probably disappeared with him.
