Cadillac has built some impressive cars over the years, but one of its most iconic designs was the 1957 and ’58 Series 62. It was an incredible blend of curves, chrome, and luxury. If you wanted a big American luxury car to haul your family or friends around in, the 1958 Series 62 Extended Trunk Sedan was the one to get. This example is being offered here as a Barn Finds Auction!

This example was purchased new in 1958 and has remained in the family. According to the seller, it has been garage-kept its entire life and was used mainly on the weekends and long road trips. In 1981, Grandma had to settle for a smaller car that was easier to navigate than this marvel of American Engineering. It has been in the garage and not started since the 1980s.

The Series 62 Sedan wasn’t exactly small, coming in at 216.8 inches long, but Cadillac felt there was a need for one with an even larger trunk. At 225.3 inches long, the extended trunk should offer more than enough trunk space to haul everyone’s stuff for a cross-country family vacation. Here is a good look at the massive trunk, as well as the original hup caps.

This example is going to need restoration, but it’s complete, and what’s here is original. The seats are currently wearing covers, so hopefully, the upholstery underneath is in usable condition. The headliner will need to be redone, and the carpets appear to be in need of some attention. While the trunk is larger, the interior is otherwise the same as the standard sedan, so that should make finding parts a bit easier. Some soft parts are sure to be challenging to track down, but a quick internet search reveals that headliners, carpet sets, and seat upholstery are available.

Moving all this luxury around requires a big V8. This one is equipped with the single 4-barrel 365 cui OHV V8, which was rated at 310 horsepower. Cadillac’s overhead valve V8 Engines are renowned for their durability and smooth operation. Since it hasn’t run in 40 years, though, it’s going to need to be gone through. The engine bay appears to be complete and original.

Three of the four tires are holding air, and it rolls freely. This really does look like a worthwhile project, and the fact that it’s a one-family survivor is a huge plus. If you’d love to rescue this Caddy, cast your bid below!

“According to the seller, it has been garage-kept its entire life” This car sure exhibits a lot of rust/patina issues that causes me to doubt that statement. As has been stated, a good project base. GLWTA!! :-)

I’m with you, looks a little ruff for a car that spent it’s life inside. 124k is about the life span of most ’50s era cars. Still a good project for someone that doesn’t mind getting dirty.

There is garage kept and climate controlled garage kept. Those are 2 very different environments.

    Thank you for the input…

This Caddy was purchased by my grandparents and eventually gifted to my brother…
I am the administrator for my brother’s estate…
since it was his car, I have some gaps in information about the entire history…
however, I do know that my grandparents mostly did store it in the garage except on Sundays and trips…
they had Chevy II they used for work and to get around town…
yes, there is tarnish and oxidation present…
since I am a novice with classic autos I did not attempt to start or restore the vehicle…
I wish to sell it as is and let the new owner have at it…
I can verify it has been in the garage and not started since the 1980s though…
I have attached a photo of the vehicle in the garage taken before we had it winched out, washed, and vacuumed this June.

In 1958 this said you had it made, ‘Merica at its finest. But in 1 year would be outdated when the newer and bigger 59’s came out. A series 62 with no A/C and no power windows, can’t tell if it has a power seat or not. The extended trunk does make the car look better, in my opinion. The standard trunks look kind of stubby. But in ’62 and ’63 you could get a shorter trunk as an option, the Park Avenue. I guess ’64 and up were one size fits all?

Surprising , the ’58 Buick Caballero I had had electric. Windows and seat.

The photo showing the original keys, complete with the knockout code number, is impressive, shows the care taken with the ancillaries.
