The Chevrolet Chevelle is one of the world’s most iconic muscle cars, but this 1968 example takes that to a higher level. Its engine bay houses a potent 454ci V8, ensuring that this classic has the muscle to back its good looks. From its sparkling paint to its impressive interior, there is much to like about this beauty. The time has come for it to find a new home, so the owner has listed the Chevelle exclusively with us at Barn Finds Auctions.

Chevrolet released its Second Generation Chevelle range in 1968, with the newcomer’s styling bearing no resemblance to its predecessor. The industry was adopting a more sculpted look across the board, and the Chevelle was no exception. This first-year example makes a striking visual impression, with its original shade of Ash Gold making way for striking Red with contrasting White stripes. The close-up shots in the image gallery tell the story because the paint is virtually flawless. It delivers a mirror shine that cannot help but draw attention. The panels are as straight as an arrow, while the underside shots reveal floors and a frame that you could eat off. The car is rust-free, which is good news for potential buyers. The relatively new bumpers and trim perfectly complement the paint, and the glass is crystal clear. The motor features a range of cosmetic enhancements that accentuate the positive impression made by the engine bay. The big-block’s prodigious power feeds to a Ford 9″ rear end via a Turbo 400 automatic transmission. The builder added a new wiring harness, a double-action brake booster, and heavy-duty Wilwood discs on all corners with four-piston calipers. The package delivers neck-snapping performance, and potential bidders can consider this Chevelle a turnkey proposition. Fancy motoring fun? The buyer could fly in and develop a relationship with this classic as they drive it home.

This Chevelle’s interior didn’t escape the builder’s attention, and the buyer is set to benefit. It recently received new seatcovers, carpet, a headliner, and a console. It presents exceptionally well as a high-end driver, with no evidence of wear or abuse. The dash is spotless, and the pad is crack-free. The chunky sports wheel will undoubtedly improve driver comfort, and the retro-style stereo will relieve boredom on long journeys.

This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle is a classic with no genuine weaknesses. The mechanical specifications will provide a potent motoring experience, although the inherent torque produced by the big-block will allow it to cope with heavy traffic while barely ticking over.       Hot Rods evolve over the years, and larger wheels is what’s “in” and looks great! Seems like anyone who’s over 60 just can’t accept that’s how it is… Buy it and put some 14’s on it? I LOVE Barnfinds, but it gets old with the same comments “clown wheels” or making a Chevelle into an SS is another one that get’s the old timers all riled up…

        Ghetto rims on a classic car really does look out of place .and the body tag and VIN would show how the car was built ……ya know….for us geezer types

      Surely you jest! The fact that a car as heavily modified as this one, and it not being an original SS is an issue? Don’t take this personally, but that’s about like saying a ’34 Ford street rod with a blown BBC isn’t original.

    Is it me ,, or is there something haywire with the rear bumper. I can’t be the first to notice? Am I? In fact the whole rear panel and both tail light inside entry to the mating curve of the rear panel looks deformed. It appears to me that the car was involved in a serious rear-ender sometime in its past lifetime.

      I see it also. I think that the trunk panel below the trunk lid is a little strange causing the gap between the bumper and that panel to be inconsistent. Possibly rotating the bumper down some would fix the gap. But then the nice fit of the bumper ends to the 1/4 panels would suffer. That is the only thing that is not perfect on this car. A lot of attention to detail went into this build. The builder should be very proud of what they have done here. I’m not really a red fan. But I would not kick this out of my garage.

        Well Wayne, I thought yur thinkin’ also, however could it be that whoever did the straightening and re-chrome could have not had a proper press and format for the 68 Chevelle bumper?
        If you were to adjust you would loose the alignment at the quarter panels.
        Something isn’t correct it’s obvious.

        Otherwise, this clone looks like a hot pants street rod! Whew..

    never will understand why owners slap SS emblems and stripes down the hood and trunk on a car that is not even that model or come with stripes. IMO this car would be a lot nicer if were left as built from the factory. there are more SS Chevelles on the road than GM built.
