Every once in a while, a true survivor emerges to remind us that some classics really are still hiding in garages, untouched and waiting. This 1973 Triumph TR6, listed for auction in Erie, Pennsylvania, is exactly that kind of find, a remarkably well-preserved example that’s been tucked away for roughly three decades, only to surface now in surprisingly good condition.

According to the seller, this TR6 was purchased about 30 years ago by a young man who intended to drive and enjoy it, but plans changed. The car was placed into garage storage in northwest Pennsylvania, where it remained unseen until 2024, when the property was sold and the car rediscovered. It still wears its California license plate, a reminder of its earlier life on the West Coast before it ever made its way east.

After its long hibernation, the car received a careful mechanical revival rather than a rushed restoration. The fluids were checked and replaced, and the engine came back to life without issue. The seller notes that the 2.5-liter inline-six starts and runs smoothly, showing no immediate signs of trouble. The braking system has been renewed, with new front calipers and rebuilt rear wheel cylinders, and the fuel tank was relined to ensure reliability. Additional recent work includes new spark plugs, a fresh battery, and a reconditioned convertible top frame. A new convertible top is also included in the sale, still in the box.

As shown in the photos, the car remains solid and honest. Having originated in California, it was spared the harsh winters that typically plague cars from rust-prone areas. The frame shows some light surface rust, but the floors appear rust-free and the underbody is described as structurally sound. It’s currently riding on older tires that still hold air, though they’ll need replacement before any serious driving.

This TR6 represents one of those rare opportunities to experience a true time capsule from the golden age of British motoring. Whether enjoyed as a rolling restoration or used as the foundation for a complete rebuild, it’s an authentic and unspoiled example that captures everything enthusiasts love about the TR6, its simple mechanicals, handsome proportions, and unmistakable exhaust note.

The car is being sold as-is, where-is, and comes with a clean Pennsylvania title. Personal inspections are welcome by appointment. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, this Triumph embodies the thrill of the unexpected discovery, a genuine barn find that proves there are still treasures waiting to be unearthed.

Would you restore this long-hidden TR6 to showroom glory or keep it as a preserved survivor of another era?

Probably, but I still think it could be a neat little car if the price doesn’t get to crazy.

Very nice. These are a joy to drive with a minimum of issues. Keep it maintained and it will be a friend for a long time.

Very nice especially if the price doesn’t triple. Not saying this is an issue but it wasn’t always a California car. That dealer plaque on the back is from Belleville Illinois. Good thing I have sworn off wire wheels, no need for me to bid. Ha Ha.

It’s a great value, but an in-person or mechanic inspection is needed. It’s too far from me, or else I certainly would be interested. All of the really interesting rides lately have been 2500 miles from me. I don’t know if this is a good or bad thing! Good luck.

Good opportunity to own one of the last traditional British sports cars, but you’ll have a lot of work to do. New fuel lines, new brake lines, cleaning, fixing those little owies in the body, upholstery, etc. If the final bid is under $10,000, and you can do some of the work yourself, it’ll be worthwhile. At least it’s an enjoyable asset that’s not going to depreciate.

Someone may want to tell Paul to drop a couple zeros off. Yikes.

The high bid is a total mistake and please remove the bid of 250000.00 as it was to be only 2500.00. I have a kid that likes to hit the keys without notice.

I can only tell you that is what the odometer reads. My guess it’s 31,000 but have no idea with little history to go on. It has been sitting in a garage for approximately 30 years untouched

If you want one, buy this one. They are getting insanely priced of late. One just sold north of $50,000 on BAT the other day. A very close college friend, has restored two of these, sold one, still has the other. Did everything himself. He told me he’s keeping this one.

eons ago I restored a 1960 British Racing Green TR3A and the price I paid to restore 5 48 spoke wire wheels in the late 70s was so breathtaking that I painted the silver wheels buttercup yellow so EVERYONE would see them. I shudder to think what they might cost now

Bidders as there is a few days to go on the TR6 I thought to mention that the reserve I put on the car is reasonable and that it is not far off from the current bids. It is available for a personal inspection by appointment

Good morning, the auction will be ending in a couple days and thank you for your interest. As I stated in the listing anyone who would like to view and inspect the car are welcome to by appointment.

Also the reserve was set at a reasonable amount and from the latest bid it’s very close

I live in Suprise AZ which would be a long way to go get the auto and buy tires to rerun home. What a drive back though. Sure would be a lot of fun and bring back old memories to enjoy.

In response to the question is it a runner?. what I can say is that we have put maybe 2-3 miles on the car . It has a clear PA title that we obtained from the state. It took about 3 months along with 2 trips in front of a judge and fee for legal notices and related state fees totally about $500. But it doesn’t have a license plate so we haven’t put many miles on the car.

If I wasn’t approaching 72 I would consider doing a mild restoration on the car. I have restored an Jag E-Type, MGB, Ford Capri to name a few but those days are behind me. I did some quick paint readings and there appears to be no filler in the car. the instruments all work and the car starts with the turn of the key.

But with any car stored for 30 years there will be some issues.

Patrick, thank you for your reply. Wanted to know if she was a runner with respect to transportation overseas. Cheers T.
