Mazda has built a well-earned reputation for delivering affordable sports cars that capture the essence of driving joy, and the MX-5 Miata stands as its crown jewel. Offered here on Barn Finds is a particularly special example, a 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition, finished in the model-exclusive Icy Blue Metallic over Saddle Brown leather with a matching brown convertible top. With just 90,504 miles, a clean title, and a lifetime of careful use, this limited-production roadster is ready to bring its next owner the same thrill it’s been offering since new.

Mazda produced just 750 Special Editions for North America, making this color and trim combination a rare sight today. Beyond the elegant finish, this car also benefits from its 6-speed manual transmission, the gearbox that best showcases the Miata’s razor-sharp handling and light-on-its-feet character. A set of 17-inch ten-spoke alloy wheels rounds out the package, adding to its clean and refined stance.

The seller notes this Miata has been garage-kept and climate-controlled during colder months, only seeing road duty as a fair-weather summer driver. That care shows in the car’s condition, there are no rips or tears in the Saddle Brown leather, the convertible top is in great shape, and the car has no mechanical issues. Small dings consistent with careful use are mentioned, but overall presentation is excellent.

The NC-generation Miata was widely celebrated at launch, with J.D. Power and Associates ranking it Highest in Vehicle Dependability, while outlets like Car and Driver and Consumer Guide placed it on their 10Best Cars and Best Buy lists. As one of the top-selling convertibles in its class, the MX-5 continues to prove why it has remained a driver’s favorite for decades.

Between its rare color combination, proper manual transmission, and careful ownership history, this Special Edition MX-5 offers a unique opportunity for enthusiasts and collectors alike. It’s equally at home as a daily driver, a weekend canyon carver, or a garage-kept modern classic that will only continue to grow in appreciation.

Would you keep this Special Edition as a collector’s piece, or enjoy it fully as Mazda intended, top down and revs high? Bought an ‘08 Grand Touring new. It was dark red with the saddle interior, it also had the retractable hardtop and a 6-speed. Good looking and fun car. Unfortunately it ended up being a garage queen and I sold it a couple of years later with only 2K miles on it for something more practical. This one is a nice example and somewhat collectible but the 90K miles would probably have me continuing my search. Also IMO the chocolate brown doesn’t pair well with the blue. GLWTS.
Agreed Mark. Tan interior was the ticket.
Why is the left rear wheel not like the others?
Maybe it has winter tires in the rear?
Since it’s a standard rear wheel drive car that’s the only thing I can think of..
I had it replaced because it had too much road rash.
Someone should explain why the left rear wheel is different!
Can we get a video of the top operation?
It is manual. Let me know if you’d like me to upload one.
This is my absolute favorite Miata generation. Everything was right about it. The first generation was truly fun. The third generation was just ugly! Now for this car, it well used and overpriced!
This is the 3rd generation. 1st NA, 2nd NB, 3rd NC, 4th ND.
Buy it, drive it. It is not a concours or museum piece, there are plenty of those. Keep it up, and it will go another 100,000 miles of fun.
I have a 2009 NC and it has over 168,000 miles on it.
Bought it used in 2015 with 13 thousand miles on the clock ,for 13 thousand dollars ..
Definitely a great car.
Stormy blue fire mist paint gets waxed every month and it reminds me of the Lotus Elan I had a long time ago.
Put larger injectors and hotter cams and a real cold air induction kit from Moss motors.
Even the Mercedes and the Honda convertibles can’t keep up with it.
Standard disc brakes and stock suspension and it takes the twisted roads here in Pennsylvania like buttah!
Actually it’s the left front wheel that is different. All the others are original.
I had it replaced because it had too much road rash.
Do you still have it? They can be repaired.
Why is he slipping the clutch and not taking it through it’s gears.. sounds like it needs help. Video’s are not great
What good are 5mph videos in the cul-de-sac? We need one from out on the road when it’s opened up at speed. I’m suspicious of higher mileage cars not being really driven at highway speeds.
I take one later today. The photographer must have slowed them down.
They will be up shortly
If it was only driven in reasonable weather, why the rust near dogleg, door jamb, etc…? That wasn’t mentioned.
I never drove it past September and stored in a climate controlled facility until late March. There pictures of its imperfections.
Why would you buy a different wheel when factory wheels are easily procured online, and why didn’t you provide any passenger-side photos? Do you have the factory wheel? And curious for a better reply to @jdb2494’s question about the rust. I have a 93 Miata we bought new, about to hit 200k miles, garage kept but driven in all seasons and zero rust anywhere. Considering a bid, your answers will be very helpful. Thanks!
Thanks for the question but I don’t have a better answer as far as rust goes. I bought it that way and it hasn’t changed in the 4 or 5 years since I’ve owned it.
I looked everywhere for the rims but could not find the exact match with what I was willing to pay. I drive it on most sunny days and hotter days. Plus I thought I would keep the car for my son but I want a Porsche.
Hope that helps.
2014 Tire Rack wheel, lug bolts not tightened by garage when putting on winter wheels in 2022, luckily I stopped when there was just one bolt left. Wrecked the wheel lug bolt holes, but brakes OK. No matching wheel to be found. Readers would notice! But summer wheels, OEM, are fine.
