BF Exclusive: 1923 Ford Model T Depot Hack

1923 Ford Model T

From Jason BStored inside for over 25 years and held within a private collection, this 1923 Model T is in remarkable shape and runs great. The wood body was built by two brothers who only had a 3rd grade education. They constructed it from a large tree that was cut using a long saw by the both of them. The tree was hauled out of the woods by a steam tractor that the two brothers had also built.

Front Seat

This ’23 T has had its oil changed, a new battery, and coils cleaned. Three of the four coils are strong, with one that doesn’t spark to full capacity, but still works fine. It’s seat has no rips and was redone in the mid 80’s. The headliner is good and the wood has no major imperfections.

Depot Hack Body

These Model T’s are making a huge comeback in popularity and price. Although they can be found, they typically need a lot of work and are not running. Most of them are used for parts vehicles. This one can be driven and needs nothing.

If you are interested, this Model T is located in Mansfield, Arkansas and Jason would like to get $9,500. You can contact him via email here if interested. Thanks for listing this with us Jason!  If any of you have a classic car that you are thinking about selling, please consider listing it here on Barn Finds!

As the owner of a T I wish the best of luck to Jason, but I don’t think he will get close to his ask on this one. Just like all cars of that era the body structure was wood which was then skinned with sheet metal. That construction method goes back to the days of horse drawn coaches and coachbuilding construction methods which actually did cover the coach framing with animal skins. The current body is little more than a homebrew way to get the rolling chassis back on the road and is not original or rare.

As a runner however it would be a good starting point for someone wanting the join the Model T community.

One of the cars I’d like to own is a Model T. Unfortunately I’m more into a roadster pickup than a depot hack. Still a nice car featured here and I wish the seller the best of luck….

I agree with the first comment. Also, my father owned a depot hack/station wagon and the fenders and cowl should be black, not the color they are now. Remember what Henry Ford said: you can have any color you want as long as you choose black.

I’d be more interested in the 36 with canvas top shown on right side of the page. It looks like it’s in good shape. I had a restored very well done, or “nicely sorted” Model T Doctor’s coupe. After owing mine, I don’t know why anyone would want one. If going to an auction with a couple of cars, the T is like your sister-never ready to go. And like one’s sister always wants everyone’s attention. Like Mom,T’s are temperamental. They will run when they feel like it. So what if it has been running like a top all morning, when it’s time to leave for the auction, it won’t start. I never heard from the guy I sold it to, nor seen an obit for him, so either he’s gone or the T is gone. But I am glad its gone from my house.

If you decide to sell it someday, let me know. I have a 36 5W coupe, w/ LT1
