BF Exclusive: 1960 Cadillac Project

Big Fins

One of our readers, sent in this Cadillac that they purchased to restore. Jimmy has decided that he has too many project though and would rather sell it to someone who will finish the job. The engine does not run, but the car appears to be all original. The odometer is showing 57k miles, but there is no documentation to prove the mileage. Jimmy is asking $4,000 and you can contact him via email if interested.

1960 Cadillac Project

Cadillac offered quite a few models in 1960. This particular car appears to be a six-window Sedan de Ville. Jimmy didn’t provide us with enough photos to know all the specifics, but it should have a 390 under the hood. We do know that this one came with AC and power windows.

Four Doors

This is the body style that everyone pictures in their mind when they think of classic Cadillacs. Those big tail fins are just as exciting to see today as they were when this car was new. And just think, those are the toned-down version! Let’s just hope this one isn’t too far gone to save. The restoration will be a tough one, but after completing it, you’ll have one of America’s best luxury barges!

The car is located right on Hwy 72 west of Athens, Alabama. I saw it earlier in the week so I stopped and told him about this site. Let’s all cut him a little slack, he is new to Barn Finds.

I think the four door is very interesting. You really have to see interior and under hood shots to know if this is a project you might want to take on.

I wouldn’t restore it as it has nice patina. I’d get her running clear coat the rust and drive her

I remember riding in my uncle’s 60’s Caddy. It could cruise, smooth and silent, all day.

Personally I love the car but since I’m between jobs I really don’t want to risk spending $4K or I would be all over it.

How is it called a “six window Sedan De Ville” when I count ten windows? (including the vents)

Only count the front door, back door and the small window in the c pillar times 2 for the other side.

OK so then why is a 50’s Chevy Pickup called a “5 window pickup”?

The old Chevy/GMC trucks were called “five window” because the had the three part rear windows, plus the window in each door…
