Few cars capture the style and presence of the early 1960s quite like the 1960 Chevrolet Impala. Offered here on Barn Finds, this example comes with a remarkable backstory and an excellent foundation for finishing. Located in Moores Hill, Indiana, it’s a car that has already received thousands of dollars’ worth of parts and attention and now needs someone to take it across the finish line.

According to the seller, this Impala has been in the family since 1998, when their father first purchased it. Over the years, more than $8,000 in new parts have been acquired for its restoration. The car has been disassembled for body and mechanical work, and while the pieces are here, it now needs final assembly, finishing, and paint to return it to the road.

With the car comes a 6-cylinder engine and a 3-speed manual transmission, a setup true to Chevrolet’s reliable entry-level drivetrains of the period. With the mechanical foundation included and many components already sourced, the heavy lifting has been done, this project is about putting the car back together and making the finishing choices that will define its look and feel.

The 1960 Impala is revered for its styling, including its wide stance, sculpted body lines, and distinctive tailfins that were slightly more refined than the 1959 models. As one of Chevrolet’s most popular full-size cars of the era, it was offered in multiple body styles, with the Impala badge representing the top trim level. This example, with its clean Indiana title and roughly 90,000 miles, carries strong potential whether returned to original condition or customized with a personal touch.

The seller notes that the car must be picked up locally, but what makes this offering particularly compelling is the volume of new parts already included. From trim and mechanical items to interior pieces, much of the investment has already been made. For enthusiasts looking for a project where the hardest work, sourcing parts and beginning disassembly, is already done, this Impala could be the perfect starting point.

Overall, this 1960 Impala is more than just a project; it’s a chance to revive one of Chevrolet’s most iconic full-size cars. With its clean title, history of long-term family ownership, and thousands invested in parts, the stage is set for the next caretaker to bring this classic back to life.

Would you restore this Impala to factory-original specs, or would you customize it into a period-inspired cruiser?

The problem with selling this car is the fact that it is the undesireable 4 door sedan body. Even tbough I like these cars. I will not even take a second look at this. There may be a treasure trove of new parts. But this has no interest to me and many others . Sorry to say. .ond .

I don’t think the price is out of line, lots of work has been done and the parts seem to be all there, this will be a good project for someone that can do this type of work and will be a beautiful car when done 👍
