BF Exclusive: 1962 Jaguar S-Type

1962 Jaguar S-Type

Reader Mike N was asked by a friend if he could help them find a new home for their Jaguar S-Type. Since he wants to see this car find a good home, he’s turned to this community to see if anyone here would be interested in giving this old cat a new lease on life. Here is what Mike has to say about it: As per the owner, it is a 1962 RHD 4 speed car making it quite rare in the US but perhaps more appealing to someone in the UK that wants to repatriate this car. It was last driven in 2007 and has been sitting outside since. The temporary storage shed caved in and is still around the car.

Jaguar S-Type

Sadly the car requires extensive body work. It looks very complete and should be a hoot to drive with the manual gearbox. It is almost too good and sad to part out this car. The car is located in CT and I’m available to retrieve the car and assist with shipping/ delivery to port if needed for overseas buyers. Owner initially started the car frequently while parked but that gradually stopped. Has not run in years and there is no information about the present condition of the engine. Car is available “as-is”, “where-is” for $3,000 and will require a trailer or tow truck to haul it away. You can contact me via e-mail at: naoz@aol.com

This Jaguar looks like a massive undertaking, but I can already imagine how much fun it would be to row through the gears of this classic sedan! So is anyone here interested in give it a home? Do you think it’s worth saving or has it reached parts car status? I truly hope someone saves it, or at least puts the good parts to use saving another S-Type! Special thanks to Mike for sharing this find with us.

I may be very interested in this car depending on where it is located and how badly the rust has advanced since the outdoor storage. Please contact me directly at Chasgould@mac.com or at 617-721-9400 or 617-965-4848. I know and love Jaguars and can certainly bring this S back to its former glory.

Unfortunately I don’t see this going for more than 1500.00. That’s alot of rot in those front fenders and the rockers have seen better days. Guessing the floors are pretty well done as well.

Sadly this looks more like a parts car than a restoration candidate. These are magnificent cars when properly maintained, hopefully this one ends up with an irrational Jaguar-lover who will go underwater to restore it or will contribute to finishing another one.

There’s a ton of work there, literally. Shame the tinworm and the slugs are both doing there part to return her to the elements.
I am with Rich, maybe 1-1,5 there. Not for the faint of heart.
They are great cars though, love the manual trans and RHD.
The engines are sweet when done, they have their problems that have to be sorted fully.
    Shame its that far gone.

I looked at two of these locally, started at $2000/both, and dropped to $800/both, I almost bought them, and should have, the chrome bumpers looked great. The amount of work to properly restore one is why I didn’t.

I am quite sure the s type was not introduced until 1964 after the mk10 in 1962 from which it borrowed the rear end styling, also I believe the manuals had overdrive on 3rd & 4th as standard

You’re correct John, the S-type didn’t come into production until the end of 64′. Great cars but you’re still talking about a bit of money to bring it back to its former glory. The overdrive is only on 4th on these. The fog ranger driving lights were originally installed only on European models (Non-US) which makes sense on this right hand model but more the point is that the fog rangers aren’t being reproduced for S-types (Jaguar MKII’s I believe are) so they, along with the four position headlight switch are worth a bit.

I think a Fiberfab Jamaican or Banshee needs this car’s engine, trans, rear suspension and instruments. Fabulous cars but this one is long gone, except for the irrational.

There is an S-Type here in South Alabama that has been the victim of a Ford 302 V8 transplant. It is for sale, also. The body and interior are very, very nice. Perhaps the two could become one?
