This 1966 Ford Mustang is offered after two years of hands-on ownership and improvement. The car is said to run and drive, the major mechanical essentials have been addressed, and it presents as an honest, classic that’s ready for a new caretaker to finish dialing it in. The seller is relocating and has decided to pass the project along rather than rush it to completion. While the exterior might look rough, this is not a rough barn find, but rather a solid Mustang with substantial recent work completed. If you like the current look or would like to give it a new coat of paint, this looks like an ideal starting point.

Over the past two years, significant attention has been given to the car’s drivability and reliability, including:
- New spark plugs
- Replaced hoses
- New starter
- New gas tank
- Recent oil change with new oil filter
- New brakes
- New carburetor
- New radiator
- New front and rear suspension
- Recent transmission overhaul
The car starts, runs, and moves under its own power, and the big-ticket mechanical items have already been handled — work that can quickly add up on an early Mustang.

The interior has been refreshed and presents well:
- Seats reupholstered
- Brand-new carpets/rugs installed
- Stereo works (installed prior to current ownership)
- Overall, the cabin is a comfortable place to be and reflects recent investment rather than deferred maintenance.

While it runs and drives, it does not drive great yet and would benefit from additional tuning and sorting. Here’s what is said to still be needed to be an exceptional driver:
- Tires need attention (currently low on pressure and may require replacement)
- Paint is the primary cosmetic need
- A/C needs to be reconnected — it was working prior to being disconnected during the carpet installation, and should be repairable with some effort

This Mustang represents a strong foundation: the major mechanical systems have been serviced, the interior has been refreshed, and the car is complete and drivable. What remains are the kinds of finishing touches — paint, tires, exhaust, tuning, and detail work — that allow the next owner to shape the car to their taste. So, is this a great candidate for an enthusiast who wants a classic Mustang they can improve and enjoy, without starting from square one?

That is one very sick 200ci IL6. Not hitting on all cylinders. Sounds like a rod knock or piston slap.
Engine swap would not be difficult; remanufactured long blocks are less than $3K shipped to your street. The paint would cost more.
After that it would be a brick, and the A/C is a plus. Fifteen grand is too high a starting point for me but GLWTS!
lot to spend for what it is and what it needs
Bad miss, sounds like an exhaust leak and possibly more.
Should be = “Nothing that a couple of turns of a screwdriver wouldn’t fix.”
Looks like a Greg Brady Special to me. And of course, the obligatory missing brake pedal pad. Nothing screams “Classic” like a $4.00 missing pad. It wouldn’t pass PA inspection like that.
Body, prep and paint will be 15K, so this is way overpriced for a crappy sounding six that also has no underside pictures. Way better can be had for that money.
“A/C needs to be reconnected — it was working prior to being disconnected during the carpet installation, and should be repairable with some effort” Yeah, right…
Good parts car, but not at that price way too much.
