The Isuzu Trooper has long been the affordable option for those looking for a stout 4×4. These days, it’s getting hard to find clean, rust-free examples, which means values for nice ones are on the rise. This 1992 Trooper has a few dents and dings, but is rust-free and ready to enjoy! If you’d love to have it, it’s being offered here as a BF Exclusive, by its second owner.

The Trooper was initially meant to be basic off-road transportation, with few creature comforts and engines that struggled to move them down the road at higher speeds. By the time this second-generation example was built, they had grown in size, on-road capabilities, and gained a number of features. What they lost in off-road capability, they gained in on-road abilities, making them great daily drivers.

When shopping for Troopers, you want to find one with a good interior. Finding Trooper mechanical parts isn’t all that difficult, but interior parts can be hard to come by. Thankfully, this one’s interior is in above average condition. The cloth seats show some minor wear, but nothing alarming. The dash and other plastic components look to be in very good shape. It even still has it’s original stereo. And the seller states that the air conditioning blows cold. All of the systems are said to function, except for the speedometer, which recent stopped funcitioning. The seller believes the issue is a failed speed sensor, which is a common issue.

Motivation is provided by a 3.2-liter SOHC V6, which is rated at 175 horsepower, and is paired with a 4-speed automatic with selectable 4-wheel drive. The seller recently serviced the engine, with new fuel injectors, coils, and plugs. These engines are known to be dependable and easy to work on. While this is a base model, you still get power 4-wheel disc brakes and power steering.

Other than a few dents, this Trooper presents well. These are great rigs and can be made into serious off-roaders or can make for the ultimate winter warriors. With a little cosmetic work, but could be an exceptional example and should prove to be a great 4×4 driver. If you’d love to have it, make the seller an offer today!

This will be gone soon, clean and in great shape, Jeff on your staff likes these.
I drove one as a demo for about 3 years and liked it a lot. It had a 4 cyl, so not a lot of power, but very dependable vehicle. It was narrow guage of course and wouldn’t track well in deep ruts. I laid it over one time at about a 45 degree angle when it slipped off into one of the ridges. I thought I had really messed up the side but the guy who popped me out of the laydown knew what he was doing and didn’t have a scratch on it.
I had 2 of these. Great car. Underated.
Not up on for ”asking on BF”. Is this buy it now or their reserve?? Thanks
It looks like it’s an asking price.. on the right is a “Make an Offer” and it doesn’t say anything about it being an auction so it appears to me that either the full $5K or whatever they will agree to will buy it.
In my experience, when maintained properly they go a long time before corrective maintenance is required. I really like the suspension, steering and brakes on these vehicles. But not a huge fan of the engines/transmissions, for no other reason than they are nothing special. One thing that I have noticed is no matter the mileage, 85,000 or 385,000. Once it needs repairs, it becomes a never ending proposition. I don’t know why that is, and it never really is a common problem. It just seems to snowball down the hill.
My wife had one for several years and loved it. She sold it before we got together.
I am on my 3rd Trooper now, 2 1994 automatics and in between a 1995 stick shift, I really like them but rust is tye main issue here in NJ , the chassis rusts out really bad (poor metal) I went to VA for my last one with a blown trans, bought from the original owner, but I still ended up welding it!; There need to be pic’s of the frame underneath, looks in nice shape though, trans is good for 200k if properly cared for
