Offered here on craigslist in Salina, Kansas is this 1950 Buick sedan. Parts, anyone? Classified advertisements that provide a single photo and a 20-word description could be the bane of the aspiring automotive journalist’s existence, but this car was too cool not to feature. We may be able to overlook the seller’s laziness or indifference for offering this car at such a bargain price. $500 is hard to argue with, even for a parts car. Not that it’s without appeal to the chop, cut and modify crowd, there are plenty of modifications that could be done with it as well.
The single photo shows what looks like original green paint, with excellent patina, and at least from this distance, the chrome looks bright and decent as well. Twenty words wasn’t enough to share whether or not this car still has a drive train, or if unsaid drive train is the 248 “straight 8” or not, but that would certainly be one of the first questions I would ask if I were to call the guy. The condition of the rest of the body is also not mentioned, leaving prospective buyers to wonder how much rust it has. I’m not sure if Salina is far enough west to be considered “high plains” or not, but I have seen enough other central Kansas cars to be able to state with certainty that many of them are considerably more solid than similar cars found just a few hours to the east in the salt belt. Whether that’s due to less road chemicals, lower relative humidity in the air, or both, I’ll take it. There may be enough left of this $500 car to actually do something with. What do you think? Is it a great deal?
This could be the type of excursion that turns into a gold mine of other collectibles at the sellers address.

I just backed up and went to the Salina Kansas “by owner” for sale and there is more than a few interesting cars for sale just on the first page. It is worth your look guys!

I found a grill and bumper for sale on a site ksl.com for $550 by itself. I would think this car is a steal at 500. From the looks of the pics provided someone could build a good cruiser for reasonable investment or turn into a full on custom with a ton of effort. It would make for a cool car either way.

Tell me more about the Roadmaster 4 door convertible (phaeton). I think the last one built was a ’41, on the previous chassis, but maybe some General got one in ’42 for the “War Effort” – McArthur got a Studebaker President in Australia.
Some one did a nice job on this, I would love to see a photo of the rear, and photo with top down.

Thought all Buicks had 4 port holes. This one only has 3.
