Big Block 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Pace Car Convertible

A unique paint scheme or graphics is a sure way to get noticed in a crowd of classic cars. There are a ton of first-year 1967 Camaros running around, but not too many pace cars. This car is one of only eleven big-block pace cars that were imported to Canada. It can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid just shy of $30,000. The reserve hasn’t been met yet and there is no buy-it-now price, so it’s a little hard to tell what price the owner will accept. The car is being offered by Classic Auto Show Place in Troy, Michigan and they have it listed for $84,500. Have a closer look at this beauty.

The engine is a 396 mated to an automatic transmission. The ad says the car has about 37,000 miles on the odometer, but there’s no indication if they are original miles or if that’s how many miles have been clocked since the car was restored.

The interior is a beautiful shade of blue that I’m sure looks great with the top down. The graphics on the car match the interior perfectly and it is a great combination. The wood steering wheel is very classy and I bet the bucket seats are ready to haul you wherever you want to go.

Overall, this looks like a really nice car. I’m not sure if they will get the $85k they are asking for, but this car is certainly worth pretty strong money. Are you a fan of pace cars or would you rather have a “normal” classic car?

$84,500 on their site? Well, that pretty much indicates what their reserve must be.
Good luck to them, because they’ll need it!

These were gorgeous cars, probably better looking than the 69 pace cars. If they were better known the price would likely be easily attainable.

Around 100 pace cars in 67 so the rarity and the Big Block engine will help with the asking price.

The blacked out big block tail panel is incorrect for a pace car. Should be white.

How does one know this is authentic and not a ‘tribute’?

Really know way without some kind of docs to prove it.This is the classic case of buyer beware.

Firewall tag should have an “O-1” or “C-1” code if it’s a legit pace car.
FWIW, ‘67 pace cars didn’t have rear spoilers like the ‘69 Z11s.

Steve Clinton, at the 67 Pace Car Trust they have the data base of all known festival cars and a good share of the factory built cars that were sold at Chevy dealers that may have never seen Indy ever in the last 50+ years. It is estimated there were 500-600 of the factory built cars in total. Yes, there are a lot of “Tribute” cars circulating too.

The cowl tag tells it all . The cowl tag proves the authenticity of the Pace Car Camaro. The paint code is O -1 , also the in the tag numbers group- 4N is for the BB396 and the 4P is for the small block , so now you know the correct info on 1967 Pace cars . No rear spoiler for pace cars .Your cowl tag is your documentation ,unless you have the actual paperwork , bill of sale ,info from dealer , pro-tech -o- plate, etc… . 200 Pace cars were built in 1967 .

I had a friend my freshman year of college (1967) that had almost this exact car. His had a 4 speed stick rather than the auto and the graphics were not applied. It was a gorgeous car, but I’m not sure what his folks were thinking when they bought him a brand new 396 Camaro. He was just 18 at the time, and if I remember correctly, the car was destroyed in an accident before he was 19. He went from this to a VW Square Back!

Since Chevrolet will not let the records out of production numbers it is trully a guess how many of any Camaro models were manufactured. I read a little over a hundred 67 Pace cars were built now here now it is 200. Maybe someday we will all have this figured out.I wonder how many were L-78 cars.
