Porsche introduced the 912 back in 1965 as a  replacement for the 356. It featured the four cylinder engine from the 356 and provided a better weight distribution than the 911. They were not as quick, but provided good handling at a more affordable price. Today collectors are starting to take notice and prices have gone up as a result. This 1969 Porsche 912 is not perfect, but could make for a nice driver. Find it here on eBay in Tracy, California with bidding starting at $5,000.

The 912 may not have been in the same league as its bigger brother, but it did receive most of the same updates as the 911. This car is from the last year of production so it features many improvements over the earlier models. A five speed was even offered as a desirable option and it looks like this one may be so equipped. That 1.6 liter flat-four was enough to go 0-60 mph on around 11 seconds. Not blistering, but enough to have fun around the twisties. Do pray that this engine does not need a rebuild though. Just because there are two fewer cylinders than a 911, that does not mean it will be cheaper.

There are some flaws here, but remember that this car is over forty years old and is still wearing its original paint. Inside there are tears in the seats, but other than that things look good. Outside there is rust on the passenger side fender and in the battery box. This car has lived its whole life in California so we have hope that the underside is solid and that there are no hidden surprises. The seller claims that they have rebuilt the carbs, cleaned the fuel tank out, and that the engine now runs well. The first owner supposedly had the car in storage for around 10 years so we expect that it will need a little more work to get back into daily driver duty.

We love the 912 and this one makes us want one even more. The factory sales order, window sticker,  maintenance record book, and service manual make this deal even sweeter. Add Fuchs on all four corners and you have one of the best barn finds 912s we have featured. Lets just hope the reserve is set at a realistic level so this entry level Porsche can provide someone with many more years of affordable driving pleasure.
