Black Plate Amazon: 1967 Volvo 122S

1967 Vovlo 122s

Volvos may have always looked older than they really were, but they made for fun and reliable cars. This 1967 Volvo 122S is no different. This car is a survivor which still features its original paint. It may be a little rough, but they are only original once. This one may go cheap here on eBay with three days left, no reserve, and bidding only at $1,800.

1967 Vovlo 122s Rear

This car is in great shape considering it is mostly all original. The paint is faded and chipped, but we would take it any day over a respray. No hidden surprises here. The body looks to be rust free and everything appears to be there. This is a black plate California car which means that it is likely that this car has been on the road since new.

1967 Vovlo 122s Engine

Known as Amazons Sweden, these cars featured Volvo’s bullet proof B18 engine. This 1.8 liter four cylinder feaetures five main bearings and dual SU carbs. The engine bay on this looks very clean and well maintained. The seller claims that this is a B20, but we thought the B20 was not available until ’68 or ’69, so we would want to double check that. Any Amazon experts here?

1967 Vovlo 122s Interior

The interior of this car has a few problem spots, but we would leave most of it alone and just give it a good cleaning. The only part we would be tempted to replace is that dash pad which wouldn’t be too hard to source. These are durable cars that are still nimble and fun to drive. Buy this one, clean it up, and enjoy it!

    I’d prefer an 1800, but I’d take this 122S in a pinch.

This is a fine sample of a well kept 122s as the one I had back in college days and it’s a good deal under 3 grand….

This engine is most probably a b18 with 2 SU carbs mounted. The b20 for the s version came with a different cover for the camshaft.

No sir, it uses the same valve cover (OHV) including the 123GT sports model.

I owned a B18 122S two-door when they were new. It was a common conversion to swap out for a B20. There was a 123GT in our group and I agree about engine bay appearances, carbi setup aside,IIRC they look the same.
The B20 did pull noticeably harder and the 123GT overdrive meant it was quieter on the highway.

I had the identical car from 1980 til 1984. I started having electrical problems (like difficult starting when it was foggy), but I loved it. It was my “freeway flier” getting great mileage. The only design downside I didn’t care for was the location of the radio in front of the passenger instead of in the middle of the dash like most vehicle. Over 200, 000 miles on sale.
