Blank Canvas: 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

There sure have been a lot of people digging out cars lately. Heck, most of these folks don’t even unload them off the trailer before snapping photos and listing them for sale! Apparently, this 1957 Chevrolet belonged to a friend who had it in their garage since 1984. The engine and transmission are gone and the interior has been redone in a hideous button tuft pattern. The upholstery and hood louvers may be period, but it might be a good idea to ditch them for something more factory. Without an engine though, I suppose the options are wide open. There is some rust underneath, but this does look like a decent starting point for the price. Find it here on eBay where bidding is up to $10k with the option to buy it now for $12,250. What route would you go with this project?

I agree blindmarc,” Typical Tijuana interior”. The interior needs restoration, rust repaired, and the drivetrain is missing. I would be more interested if it had a Chevy 6 in it.

Let’s see, it’d be worth maybe $12K……minus rusted out floors, rusty frame/rockers, no engine, no transmission, no engine bay photo=lots of missing stuff in there, bad paint, holes punched in hood, rechroming of bumpers, wrong wheels, replace old tires, etc, etc

OK, I can go $100 bucks.

Wait, I forgot that upholstery….the deal is he pays me to take it away.

Looks like interior of a casket… a cheap one at that. But theres potential.

I kinda dig most of the mods, i.e., the Louvers, wheels and funky interior. Totally ’70s when these were fairly plentiful. I sorta see this as the ’57 Chevy Eric Clapton sang about getting off on.

Anyone attempting to restore this lump does not know what is involved when a 58 year old car has deteriorated to this condition. I wouldn’t touch it.

All stock appearance with a Big Block Ford driveline. But I certainly wouldn’t pay what they want.
