Broad-Breasted Bronze Bird: 1962 Ford Thunderbird

y1

The Broad-Breasted Bronze is a heritage turkey breed, but this beautiful 1962 Thunderbird certainly isn’t a turkey! The car isn’t completely original, but it has been cherished and garage-kept for the last 30 years. It’s located in Las Vegas, Nevada and is up for sale here on eBay, with a buy-it-now of $14,000 and an opening bid of $10,000.

I don’t know if this is an original color for the ’62 ‘Bird or not, but I know I like how it. With 107,000 miles and careful ownership, it’s obvious this car has been loved for a long time. No, the paint isn’t perfect, with some orange peel in the closeups (kudos to the seller for showing the quality like that). But for a classic driver with early 60’s style, it doesn’t get much better than this.

I love the shiny jewelry on the fenders going down the length of the car. I’ve heard these described as the “bullet” ‘Birds due to the side profile shape, and the seller uses that in their description of the car. The chrome all looks nice in the pictures and the seller describes a rust-free body.

The color carries over to the interior as well, with great looking seats, dash, steering wheel and other components. Optional equipment includes power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning, certainly necessary in Nevada.

I’d lose the air cleaner and the garish yellow spark plug wires, but I’m ok with the extra 390 emblem. This isn’t a car I’d show anyway; this is a driver. If this one were closer I’d be going to check it out in person. I think it would be a great classic to cruise around in – what do you think?

When you consider the the cost of bring back the previously posted T bird this sellers asking price of $14K doesn’t seam to be that out of line. From what can be seen in the pictures this looks like a very nice car.

Wonder what the hubcaps came off of (JC Whitney?) Not so crazy about the orange peel finish, either. IMHO, if someone wants to pay $10K for a not particularly desirable T-Bird w/ over 100K miles, end the auction early and take the money and run!

A very nice driver! It may not be the “most sought after” model, but I think the design is classic.

The wheel covers are from a ’59 Chrysler and certainly need replacing ASAP. The gorgeous color is Chestnut Metallic. I’d clean up the engine compartment, toss all that non-factory gorp and have a car that would look great anytime, anywhere.

HTD! Since it appears to be an “all birds” theme today with BarnFinds, i thought of a much forgotten “bird”. The AMC Eagle, as seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMC-Other-4-Wheel-Drive-/262152648231?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3d0983f627:g:5-IAAOSwT4lWT1xc&item=262152648231

Great “space race” inspired design! What a classic and I actually like the hub caps.
