Brougham Barn Find: 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood

1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham

What a sweet barn find! This ’68 Fleetwood 60 is located in Phoenix, Arizona and is for sale here on craigslist for $3,900. With a 472 cubic inch V8 that is said to run very well, I would imagine this is fairly speedy despite its bulk. While the original paint is damaged in spots, I don’t see anything more than light surface oxidation and if you like the “patina” look, this is right up your alley. The seller notes that it could use some front end work, a new windshield and some repair of broken exhaust manifold studs, but is completely drivable with only 400 miles on the tires. It also needs front seat upholstery and some other detail work, and, of course, the air conditioning doesn’t work. Not that you’d ever need it in Phoenix! The panels look straight and I’d love to try the driver’s seat on for size; I’ll bet I’d fit just fine. Is this a good fit for you?

    Nothing but a gigantic paperweight.

    NOBODY wants these anymore.
One clean and beautiful example (a year or two up or down) just went over the block at Mecum’s KS for a mere $2000 !!

You can chose color and year of what’s out there and still get it cheap.

    How sad !

the cost of fixing the A/C would exceed the value of the car by …..

      “NOBODY wants these anymore”
You sure about that? Have you ever seen those donks and lowriders? Young ghetto-types love these cars. Plus, I saw a 60-year-old (looking) white guy the other day driving the same Caddy as this one but white and very clean. So they’re still very desirable…just because it’s not worth a lot of money (it’s not always about money but passion as well) or because it’s not a classic muscle car, it doesn’t mean that nobody wants these. I’d take it for the money if I had a little extra cash.

Lol my ex wife had one of these given to her when we were dating. She didn’t want to be seen in it and sold it to someone who blew it up on the way home. And for the record they aren’t speedy at all, although they are quite comfortable.

    Horse Radish,

Would it make a difference if this boat were a convertible 2-door? Reason I ask is that I have a line on a garage kept, 20-year-dormant 32K 1970 DeVille convert, it’s immaculate. Black exterior and top, red interior. It’s cool.

My thought was to give it a mechanical sorting, clean it up (doesn’t need much, it’s amazing), then drive it around for a summer then sell it off. Yes the mechanical sorting could get costly. Hagerty would have you believe it’s worth mid-20s, but I’m not so sure…as with all old cars, you need to find the buyer. A 45-year-old land yacht, no matter how cool it is, might be hard to place with a new owner. What do you think?

I hope this car finds a good home. The colour is great, one of the best for this size car. I have a ’78 limo myself and you can’t beat driving a really big comfy car.

These cars were wonderful highway cruisers. I would fix the front end and the a/c and drive this car. Repaint and fix the upholstery when the money is available.

Your right Eric, but speed is relevant. I have owned several Cadillacs and some were hot off the line, some were not. But every one could sit out on the highway at high speeds all day long. You just have to make sure they don’t lull you to sleep. This one needs to be on the road as is or redone.

Beautiful GM barge in a nice color. Get a decent paint guy to do a light respray, fix the leaks, condition the leather, and you have a sweet cruiser. Those 472s pull like mofos.

They aren’t speed demons from a stop. However once you’re rolling. Once I was on a roadtrip driving on the West Chester Parkway and thought that the traffic was crawling. I looked down and realized I was doing 90 in a 55 and it didn’t feel like I was moving at all. Big, thirsty and fun! An additional benefit is that this is a 68 meaning fewer pollution controls. The 472 had 375 horses and 525 ft pounds of torque! Even at almost 2 1/2 tons it could still fly.
