“What can brown do for you” was a popular catch phrase with UPS in the late 90s (if memory serves) and still stands out today. Part of this is because the color brown has always had sort of a veneer hanging around it, from being unattractive to just not being cool. UPS attempted to change this stigma and did an admirable job; however, I think the clean 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 makes an even more compelling argument. Find it here on craigslist for $16,500 in Pennsylvania. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Pat L. for the find.
The seller actually updated the listing to note that he’s overrun with replies and interest and can’t even show the car this weekend. I’m not sure if that’s a good sales tactic – to weed out the tire kickers – or if he is perhaps reconsidering his asking price. I’ve only put too good of a price on a car once or twice in my life, and I can honestly say it’s amazing how many emails you’ll get if it’s a deal. Adjust the price back upwards and all you’ll hear is crickets. Still, you can see why people are hungry for this Camaro when you see how clean it is, inside and out.
Plus, it’s a manual gearbox car and those aren’t always easy to find. It’s hard to tell whether this Camaro was ever restored or if it’s a real-deal survivor. If it’s the latter, that’s another reason why enthusiasts are clamoring for the chance to see this Z/28 in the flesh. The engine bay is incredibly clean with lots of evidence of attention to detail. The seller doesn’t provide any info on his history with the car or whether he’s performed any maintenance work, but the pictures really do speak volumes about what you’re potentially buying.
The Z28 decals appear in great shape – perhaps too great – which makes you wonder if it’s been repainted. However, most cars that wore brown paint and had cause for a new paint job were usually transformed into a more popular color like red or black, which is why I would question whether it’s been redone. Plus, brown shines up quite well, especially in single stage form like this Camaro likely has. The seller may have to reconsider selling or hope the buyers come back should he be having second thoughts about his asking price. Do you think he could get more?
My 82 C10 is this color . It is called light metallic bronze . I’d bet this is the same . To bad the interior isn’t saddle and tan like it is . Just boring black . This car is sweet though .
Oh my, this one is clean! An M21 4-speed with a G80 rear and 3.73’s sounds like whoever ordered this was going for something more spicy. It has an aluminum intake and headers, so it ain’t original, but would be a hoot to drive (during the fall and spring that is).
It’s drawbacks are draw-ins; no A/C, no t-tops, that color. What a car.
Worked for Big Brown during that decade. Had a co worker there that had a 79 Trans Am the same color. 6.6 liter. This one is cool with 4speed.
I believe it has ac
Brown?
I beg to differ, it’s Root Beer!
seriously, why can’t I see the compressor Brad?
Can’t see it on Craigslist either.. it’s gone!
They probably had to remove the compressor to install the headers & intake. You can see the rest of the system on the firewall and some of the hoses zip tied to the driver inner fender/
Yep, it has A/C. Evaporator case and accumulator are there.
Post gone…probably reconsidering or perhaps a scam at that price.
The condition of the engine bay isn’t going to win any prizes, so I don’t know what the writer refers to when he said “incredibly clean and attention to detail.”
I see neither.
Too bad, if this was a real ad and not a scam it was a great deal on the best iteration of the Camaro from that era. Whoever ordered this one checked all of the right boxes…including the interior and exterior colors. I would buy this car right now, no questions asked, if it was still available at that price.
