Caddy Train: 1959 Cadillac DeVille

Caddy Train

When you look at this picture, most Barn Finds diehards will immediately feel their pulse race at the sight of several vintage Cadillacs being towed out of the wilderness. Although the auction is for just one car – a 1959 Cadillac DeVille listed here on eBay with the reserve price unmet – the picture is a little more exciting than the actual reality. It turns out the seller owns a salvage yard specializing in vintage Cadillacs and recently moved operations to Pennsylvania. If you’re in the Gettysburg area, you should check it out! The car in question looks like a good foundation for a project, without any major rot but needing a new interior. Personally, I’d clear-coat the rusted surfaces and make it into a custom, especially since the original engine and transmission are long gone. More than anything else, though, I wish this Cadillac trailer train was a bigger story than just an office relocation!

,,,The undercarriage had some crust on it, but overall was very original, unmolested and never patched,,,

The use of the past-tense in the ad is rather unnerving. Personally I’d take the first car, what appears to be a gray convertible, perhaps an El Dorado?

’59 Caddies draw north-of-$5K prices even when plagued with rot and missing drivetrains? There must be some magic to this car I’m just not seeing….

The fist two cars in line look interesting to me, but if they are equivalent to the ’59 condition-wise, I’ll take a pass. Obviously, restoring Cadillacs is too rich for my blood!

If I had a ton of money, I can see this as a mild custom, especially the interior ,possibly a larger big block from the mid 70s , and, of course the glossy repaint of the exterior

I should also add that the big block engine would be from another caddy

I see in their “other items” in Ebay a pristine 60 Cad in really nice condition. It is NOT even getting any takers at $19,500! The 59 is way more desireable, but I am thinking the costs would far exceed 20 or 30 grand. But I do think the 59 is good enough that someone will take it on. Just not me.

Money pit. But a great design.
