We recently received a message from reader Jason P about a barn find in Minnesota that his son spotted. Jason isn’t sure of what year or model this Pontiac is and was hoping that the collective knowledge of the Barn Finds Community could help him identify it! So, what year and model do you think this one is? I have my guess, but I’m excited to hear what the Pontiac experts out there say!
I want to thank Jason for sharing these photos with us and for asking for our help! Hopefully, his son will be able to go back and get more info. It looks rough, but could be a great parts donor or even a project for someone!
Leave your guess as to the year and model in the comments below. And, if you spot an interesting barn find, be sure to send us photos via email at mail@barnfinds.com!
Looks like a 1954 Pontiac Star Chief
This is a 54 Pontiac Starchief — last of the ‘straight 8’ cylinder Pontiacs
Front View

Hey Jeff are you from Greencastle Indiana ??
It is a 1954 Pontiac Starchief
I believe it to be a 56 Star Chief
Dad had a 56 Cheiftan this car has same front end, the 55 didn’t have as graceful front, plus Dad’s 56 didn’t have chrome pieces on trunk lid so it’s most likely a Star Chief
Beautiful car in my book, hopefully it finds a good home
‘84 Parisienne Wagon
It’s a 1962 Porsche that looks like.VW karma ghia

56
Looks like a 56 Star Chief from what I can tell but could possibly be a 57 but the headline bezels are missing from the very front of the fenders. The bezels around the headlights would completely distinguish whether it’s 56 or 57. Looking at what I see here in the picture I got to go with 56.
Didn’t the ’57 eliminate the fake air vents above the headlights? Never understood why people would choose a ’57 Bel Air over a Pontiac. Beautiful cars!
It’s ready to be pimped out as it has its own crib.
It’s a ’55 or 56 SC, but it ain’t a ’57…’57 was a totally different-looking car…
An image from the cargo hold of the Andrea Doria
Griswold Wagon Family Queen Truckster?
Looks like a 53 or 53 Pontiac Star Chief..
1957s were totally different cars outwardly from the 55-56, especially the senior series cars. And no way it could be the diminutive (by comparison) 1953. 1952-3-4 had rounded trunks like carry overs from the late 40s. 1956 all the way. Or, maybe a Canadian variant?
Indeed a 56 Star chief.
55 star chief. dream car.
It is 1956 Star Chief the 55 didn’t have the Chrome strips on top of the fender bumps
Large boat, Titanic design..
Definitely a 1956 Star Chief
All I can say is Lucy, Fred, Ethel we’re going to Hollywood, I know it’s the wrong year and not a vert but, I couldn’t help myself. Take care my car lovin buddies
D, de, definitely 55 Pontiac Star Chief. All other choices are wrong…period.
56 Star Chief….I googled it
It’s definitely a 56, 55 grille centers were painted, 56 all chrome. 55 was the first year for the V8, 54 and older had the str8 8. But I could never tell the difference between the Star Chief and the Chieftan etc……..
its a 1955 starchief
Its a 56 Star Chief the grill tells the story, the top of the grill slopes down
Ennt. You’re wrong. Hit the road Jack.

Hey John

1956 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina 4dr. hardtop, to be exact! Mom’s folks had a pink/white one, which ironically took my grandmother’s life at a RR crossing in `66. At 5 years old, Grandpa would let me reach over & start the car! I was in heaven, but what 5 year old wouldn’t be, right? He hated me playing with the power windows, and would cuss in German about that under his breath.
It is definitely a ’56 Star Chief.
I’m sure that it’s a 1956 Starchief. My brother had 2 of them.
It’s a 56 star chief. No doubt.
I think it is a 53 star chief
1954 was the first year for the Star Chief
OK, it’s an image of the Andrea Doria in the cargo hold of a 1956 Star Chief
I agree with many ere 1956 . witch model is any ones guess.
It is not a 56 or 55….so that means it must be a 54. Do a google!
We rode in one of these in Cuba, went from Varadero to Havana and back on a day trip. It had a Toyota diesel engine with ice cold a/c, and rode like a new car.
56 Star Chief I built a stockcar out of one back in the mid 60’s
