With 92,363 miles showing, this 1965 Buick LeSabre looks like it’s a nicely cared for old car. It’s located in Charlotte, North Carolina and is for sale here on craiglist. The seller is looking for $6,500 or best offer. Thanks to Ceezy for this great find!
The steeply sloped rear window almost makes this car look like a fastback. Some of the trim is damaged on this side, but at least it’s all there. The seller tells us that it’s a barn find from a local family and has only had two owners. They also tell us that it rides and drives “great”, which either means someone has resurrected it or it wasn’t in the barn for long!
Does the front styling remind anyone else of an Oldsmobile? While the paint is faded, it looks original and may well be so, although the seller claims the car needs to be repainted.
The interior looks pretty nice, although the seller tells us it needs a new headliner, carpet and rear set upholstery. I wonder if that means the front has been previously replaced? Whatever the situation, none of this is hard to overcome and you should be able to have the interior looking better in no time.
Buick was portraying their entire lineup as high-value at a surprisingly low price. I’m not sure if I feel it’s a particular low price for this car, especially considering we don’t even have under hood pictures. And details like the right front wheel cover being wrong have me concerned about the condition of the rest of the car. But I do like that roofline, and even if we don’t know which specification the 300 cubic inch V8 was built to, even the lowest spec engine was advertised at 210 horsepower so it should have enough power to be enjoyable to drive. And this car is said to be in good enough condition that you can drive it anywhere. So what do you think this one’s really worth?

A buddy in high school had one of these with the “Wildcat 355”. Stock 11:1 compression out of the 300 cid with Carter AFB. You couldn’t turn the distributor far enough to retard the ping away (the vacuum advance housing hit something from what I recall). Had the “switch-pitch” Turbo 400 that he controlled with a switch wired on the dash to take some load off the engine during acceleration to control detonation. This one (and his) also has the “speed minder” speedometer which would buzz if you went over the preset speed limit. I remember that buzzer going off quite frequently!
I had the Olds version of this, a Starfire with a 425 ci V8. Loved the ride and the look of it from every angle. When it came time to sell (about 18 months ago), I was surprised how little interest there was. My Starfire had better paint than this Buick, better brightwork, a near-flawless interior, and the big motor…but offers were between $3500 and $5000. So I think $6500 for this car in this shape is a bit steep. (BTW, I wound up trading the Starfire for a late-model Mustang, and selling that–an easier sell–for $7500.)
As fair as the asking price seems I have to think what Jamie said in the comment above about selling a similar car. Sometimes the price guides will make a sellers ask seem low/high but actual interest from potential buyers can drive what sellers actually get up or down. I like this car and it seems like a solid old car that looks good and would be fun on cruise nights , weekends and whatever
I agree with you JamieB on the price. I’d prefer a Starfire over this also for the money. Most if not all Starfires were console shift cars with above-average amount of options.
