Dodge introduced their “Sweptline” truck line in 1961. The frame was not only strengthened and lengthened, the cab height was dropped seven inches, making the truck more car like. This Dodge pickup is listed on craigslist in Crescent City, California for $900. There are few pictures and not much description beyond “it runs and drives good”, but the price alone makes it seem like a great deal. The automatic transmission is not popular with most folks and orange is not likely a popular color choice. This truck looks very original and there are no obvious signs of rust or abuse so perhaps for the price these faults can be overlooked. It looks like Doug M has found a great survivor and perhaps a real bargain.
There’s nothing fancy here, but there’s also no grass showing through the floor. That automatic transmission lever and lack of another pedal are unfortunate.
The seat is worn but usable. This interior appears to be in amazing shape for a truck almost 50 years old.
This old truck looks ready to go to work. It would be great to have around for those occasional home store trips and perhaps to lend to neighbors who would dare drive it. If the rest of the truck we can’t see is as nice as what is pictured, perhaps it’s really a decent truck. One could slip in small improvements over time without the wife noticing. Perhaps you could find an excuse to swap out the tranny for a four speed and coax a little more grunt out of the 318. The price is cheap enough a lot of faults could be forgiven. It’s located in a very small town a long way from anywhere. Maybe that’s why it hasn’t already been sold.
It appears to be a lot of truck for the money. I guessing it will clean up well. If it is as solid as it looks this will make someone a good workhorse.
I dig it. The ad is gone. I’ve noticed trucks of this vintage where the dealer welded their name onto the rear bumper. Clean it up, some new wider tires, dog dish hubcaps. Maybe the seller will through in a “hemp” blanket since its California.
this wasn’t a 68. Totally different grille in the 68’s and also 68 had a large rear window and a “spoiler” on the dash.
For sure looks like a 66.
Someone got one he** of a deal. It is not a ’68. either a ’66 or ’67. Here is a “68. As you can see the grill is different.
Someone will spit shi e it and ask a ton of doe:(
Someone will spit shine it and ask a ton of doe:(
Listing was removed by seller
It is a 65.5 or 66.
67 and later have push button door handles. Refr handles ended in 66.
Pie plate grill and new bed style started mid yr 65.
The undamaged floor mat is worth bank!
68 is a one yr only hood – look carefully at the pic posted by Loco to see the diff.
Kevin – dash “spoiler” was a crash pad to protect face from metal dash, required by feds starting in 67.
Small rear windows ended in 67, large windows were optional starting in 61.
You’re right. I didn’t look at the door handles close enough. Good call.
Yeah I’ve been the proud owner of 2 68’s and a 69 among my other dodges. My fav was my first 68 318 automatic with dash shifter. Would love to have it back!
