Chocolate Thunder: No Reserve 1977 Porsche 930

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo Carrera is listed on eBay with no reserve, a surprising entry given the typically high values of the infamous “widowmaker.” Details are scarce but I believe this 930 wears a very in-period color of Sienna Metallic, but it’s hard to be sure without seeing the Certificate of Authenticity. Regardless, the presentation of the exterior looks quite sharp, even if this car deserves black-painted Fuchs instead of the polished wheels seen here. Find it here on eBay with bids just over $29K.

The paint almost looks over-polished at this point, but it’s still hard to fault just how good it looks. The body shows no evidence of significant dings or dents, and mileage is reported to be 67,500. These typically have been kept as weekend-only drivers, but the 930 has a great reputation of being a fairly reliable supercar if you keep up with the maintenance.

If you go hunting for pictures of a 930, most of them wear Fuchs wheels of this style but with the centers painted black. I am normally not a fan of black wheels, but with the contrasting plastic trim, the traditional Fuchs design ties it all together nicely. I also can’t shake the feeling that the polished Fuchs belong on an earlier long-hood 911 – not a bad boy 930.

The hugely flared rear haunches are a trademark of any turbocharged 911, and the 930 is the epitome of the bedroom poster aircooled every teenaged Porsche fan had on their wall. This example certainly looks like a cherished example, but smart buyers should be asking for maintenance records and photos of the interior if this no-reserve 930 is tempting their bidding fingers.

That’s a tough one to spell, “ diarrhea “. Similar to “hemorrhoids”.

Almost no info . . . No pics of engine . . . no pics of interior . . . Lists power steering???? Was that even available in ’77 on an air cooled Porsche??? They don’t do a lot to make me think it isn’t a fake listing . . .

JohnD I was curious about the same thing..definitely a beautiful car but some of the listing is fishy. And why no photos of that wonderful turbo flatty?

In my opinion, this one possibly the best looking Porsche I have seen in quite a long time. The color shows very well on it.

Ditto. I never considered brown cool until a few years ago. Both Volvo and Subaru have made browns/bronzes in recent years that look good. This ol skool ride wears it well.

The exact same car sold in Missouri using the exact same pictures. Hmmm, fishy or someone too lazy to take fresh photos.

Google the VIN and it goes nowhere. Usually there is some connection to a VIN check site. Odd as well.

Hopefully no one gets scammed on eBay.

It’s a good thing these cars sell themselves.. since there is no details and no interior, engine compartment, or under chassis pics.
People really bidding $30,000 with all of the unknowns?

It sure looks like a scam ad to me. All the pictures are the same as on the Fastlane ad, and the price it much too low, wrong VIN number, phony description. We should all be reporting the ad to eBay as fraud.

Maybe some Porsche expert will prove me wrong, but didn’t these cars say “Turbo Carrera” on the back and not “Carrera Turbo”? In 1971, I lusted after a sepia brown 911S Targa. I love that color.
