If you are a fan of heavy-duty classic trucks but want something a bit different than your run of the mill Ford or Chevy, you might just want to take a closer look at this Mercury 1 ton truck. Reader Al H posted it in the BF Classifieds and just recently sent over more photos of it than what is in their Kijiji ad, so I thought we might as well take a closer look! It has had a ton of work done to it since it was discovered in a shed.
While being stashed away in a shed for 35 years protected this truck from the worst of the elements, it still needed some freshening up to be in the great condition it is in now. Al had to have new cab corners welded in as well as new metal in the bottom of the driver’s door. He also installed all new brake lines, hose, master cylinder and wheel cylinders. The engine was in good shape, but he went ahead and pulled the heads off, installed new gaskets and had the carb rebuilt. Once all the major work was done, he had it painted and installed a new Canadian rock maple grain bed/box with antique hardware.
This truck spent its life on the farm, so chances are the 38k miles on the odometer are correct. Al purchased it directly out of the shed when the previous owner decided to sell their trucking business and all their farm equipment. When it arrived Al was surprised by just how nice the interior was, so he just pulled it apart, cleaned everything and put it back together. He left the carpet and floor plug out so that he can show potential buyers the floors, but those would be easy enough to reinstall.
Al has done a ton of work to this truck and it really does look nice. He has all the paperwork for it and it should be fairly simple to import it to the States. While it might take a while, you could probably fly in and drive this one home! It would be slow going, but you’d get to see some beautiful country in a sweet old truck. And you’d have plenty of room to haul all kinds of souvenirs! If this truck looks like something you’d love to have, you can find it here on Kijiji in Canning, Nova Scotia, Canada. And if you have any questions for Al, please leave them in the comments below!
If you have a classic car or truck that you’ve saved from a barn or shed, but it needs a good home, please list it here on Barn Finds!
Being from SoCal, I used to think the Canadian ‘Mercury’ trucks were damned cool. I hope this one goes to a new owner who will use it for what it’s intended.
A buddy of mine, who used to haul show cars for ISCA, had a 1956 ‘Mercury’ M-100 panel truck – actually, a rust-free Ford with all the Merc trim and rear doors attached. It certainly attracted a lot of attention.
Hi everyone …..Looks like I’ll be the new owner…proud to be a Canadian.!
deal fell thru still for sale REDUCED
When my brother lived in Logandale, NV, his neighbor had a Mercury Tonner very similar to this one. He never knew where it originally came from but he suspected North Dakota. He actually picked it up in Lubbock, TX. Sure was an attention getter. Where I grew up they were pretty common. Basically a Ford with a deluxe cab and some bright trim. My understanding was that if you wanted one of this stripped down they were delete options. Otherwise you’ve got a basic Tonner with a 59AB engine and a Warner T-9 crushbox. I’d love one…
I loved my ’52 F-3! Why did I ever sell it?? My kids learned to double clutch the non-synchro trans & afterwards they could drive anything. I installed a rebuilt ’53 Merc to make it a great driver.
