Classy Survivor: 1957 Cadillac Series 62

57 cadillac 2

How many of us wouldn’t love to get our hands on this Caddy? This is a low mileage survivor that quote “needs to go”. Stored since 1980, we suppose the time has come for the seller to send it to a new home. There is no mention of the car being a driver, but as stated it is in good shape. We suspect it will need some TLC, and a dash of elbow grease. Appearing clean, complete, and in nice original shape the second owner of this fine Cadillac is asking $14,500. Find it here on craigslist out of Detroit, Michigan.

You cannot deny the interesting style that Cadillac executed in the late 1950s. Many dream of the bigger fin Cadillac’s, but this is a great looking car. Cadillac’s of this decade are already scarce, much less in an original condition low mileage example such as this one. The fins on this car aren’t as big, but the exhaust system is certainly an interesting and stylistic design. But what this Cadillac lacks in fins, it makes up for in doors. This is a two door coupe! The paint is in wonderful shape for the age of the car. There are a few small very light surface rust areas on the car, but they are so minimal it doesn’t take much away from the car. The dark blue and light blue color combination, is a nice color combination, giving the chrome the opportunity to “shine”. The chrome is in good shape with some rust. It looks as if there would be some hope of cleaning the chrome up and giving it a good polish.

The interior in the Caddy is nice and original. The seats are in awesome shape with no real visible damage, the carpet looks like it didn’t hold out as well as the seats. Perhaps the carpet could be cleaned and dyed again to maintain the originality. The steering wheel is a little rough as well, but we think it could be worked over as well. The dash and door panel looks very nice as well. With some time and patience, you could easily maintain the originality of this Cadillac’s interior.

This is a great opportunity to pick up a clean and original Cadillac, the kind of opportunity that doesn’t come up all that often. We are in love with this classic two door Caddy. We think it would be a fantastic car to maintain as original but work to bring back some of the color to the carpets and the steering wheel. What would you do with this classic Cadillac?

I’d keep out as original as possible. It’d be a great weekend driver.

The “two doors are better than four” stuff is, as always, a matter of opinion, but I wouldn’t kick this Caddy out of bed for eating crackers! If I was given this car, it might be the push I need to move out of the city to somewhere it could run free. I think the ’55-57s and the ’65-66s are the prettiest postwar Cadillacs, and of course a ’50s car is cooler than a newer one.

Obviously not driving now. Note the tow rope in the pics. Still a good looking old car and will make a nice project for somebody.

I think it’s pretty cool. I’m partial to Caddies though, having been raised in a Cadillac family. I remember riding in this very car when I was a very young boy. I agree with the above writer about the 50’s and 60’s Caddies being cool. I had a ’66 for 21 years and just sold it to a very good friend. Never had one problem with it. Recently, I decided to get rid of my “beater” 2011 F150 and found a replacement in a 2007 Cadillac DTS from an old guy of 96. It has 2,400 miles on it. So this will be my 9th Cadillac. All were great cars. This coming from a guy who’s owned Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, Porsches, etc. They do what they were built for. Cozy and reliable……I would make this a driver.

The ’57 might be the ugliest of the 1950s Cadillacs (I actually prefer the unloved ’58), with that ponderous front grille/bumper and the quad parking light/turn signal setup. But it’s still a two-door Caddy.

And yes, two doors are ALWAYS better than four, unless you’re looking for a parts car (snicker, snicker).

Excuse me, but why is everything that you list already sold? I open your emails within minutes of receiving them, yet the cars are already expired or sold or whatever. Clearly, when you send the emails, the cars are already no longer available.
