Corvette Powered 1959 Chevrolet Apache

Corvette powered Apache

The worn paint and bulbous fenders give this old Chevy truck a nice look, but it’s what’s under the hood that counts. The stock engine was replaced at some point with one from a 1956 Corvette! The largest engine available in the 3100 at the time was the 185 horsepower 283 V8, but the smaller and older 265 from the Corvette was good for at least 25 horses more! That had to give this old a truck a nice little upgrade in oomph. It was just listed here on eBay, but bidding is already taking off. I’d assume that a few people want it as an engine donor for their Corvette projects, but personally I would want to drive this old Apache around just the way it is!

And it’s got the “really getting hard to find” big back window! I like it!

That is a great looking truck. I wonder how it looks underneath. Might have to break a couple piggy banks and go after this one. Thanks for sharing.

I have seen a LOT of these Corvette V8s over the years . . .maybe hundreds. They usually consist of two over-the-counter Corvette valve covers and and other common parts that COULD have come on a Corvette. . . . Sort of a Corvette engine with a replacement block and the wrong heads . . . . My approach now is that it isn’t a Vette motor unless and until the numbers show it so . ..

There are more “Corvette powered” cars than there was ever Corvettes built.

I agree with JohnD about the engine, so it would not be a factor in the purchase for me. I would want to pull it anyway and if research did show it to be a corvett engine would it be worth anything to a corvett guy? If so that would help recoup some of the purchase price.
