It never ceases to amaze me to find out the kinds of cars that are just hidden away. Case in point, this one-owner, 37,655-mile ’67 Camaro emerging from 26 years of covered storage—conveniently for the seller, at a point in time where its originality and appealing spec make a $34,850 asking price plausible. Check it out here on craigslist out of San Diego, and thanks to Michael for the tip! (Archived ad here.)
Don’t be fooled by the gas cap, this is neither an RS nor an SS, but a nicely equipped Camaro nevertheless, with a 327 V8, deluxe interior, and a sharp color combo of Emerald Turquoise with a black vinyl top. Would it be heretical to suggest that a narrow whitewall tire might set off the classy look even further? It would? Okay, then. The only detractors from the originality of this car are the aforementioned gas cap and the ’70s-style sport mirror, although it has been nicely color matched to draw less attention to itself.
Having been dormant since 1991, the numbers-matching V8 was recently treated to a tune up, fluid flush, and a new battery and its condition is described as “totally original” and “excellent.” New brakes round out the car’s return to roadworthiness, and power steering is among the installed options. No word on whether this is the 210- or 275-horsepower tune, or whether the manual transmission sports three or four speeds, although the shift pattern embossed on the knob suggests the latter.
The Goldilocks theme continues inside, with the absence of high-end features like air conditioning or a console offset by the deluxe interior decor group and wonderful original condition. This is a California car through and through, built at GM’s Van Nuys plant in July 1967 and sold by Guaranty Chevrolet in San Diego; included in the sale are the original window sticker, Protect-O-Plate, manuals, and more documentation.
The blemish in the paint (or is it a reflection?) at the leading edge of the front clip is the only apparent damage to the body, although based on the photos I’d guess that the paint isn’t especially deep or lustrous—but the originality of this Camaro is something to behold. Be honest—if you found a car like this just sitting under a cover, what would your reaction be?
That’s a lot of asking price……
A sexy little penny!
Neat car. Too bad that only folks with lots of disposable income can afford to drive these cars on the street. Big investment money for me. But of course, if we knew then what we know now, my machine shed would be full of ’em.
I ha e a brand new Camaro RS With quad exhaust. I work for Wal-Mart. So almost anyone can afford 1.
Original redo
Needs Redlines not thin whitewalls in my opinion. Nice car, and I have to agree with Blindmarc and Dick J.
This was the era when the Camaro and Mustang came from the factory with, IMO, the wrong wheel set up. Steel wheels with “sedan” hubcaps just did not seem to fit the intent of the car. At least sportier hubcaps would seem to be in order. :)
Cool car. but yea I would say a little high on price. i’m happy my dad did exactly what Dick Johnson said and stored some of these cars and others away so we can have them now and not have to pay this crazy amount for them.
And is it just me or are most all factory hub caps kinda tacky on most cars ???
Single snorkel air cleaner…210 HP…and I think the price is about right…
Most factory hubcaps are tacky. However, some were popular with customizers such as the 1956 Dodge hubcap. You would think Detroit would have learned. :)
Now yore tawlkin’. My ’57 Plymouth ‘coolie hat’ hubcaps have been on several of my cars. At our little drag strip, factory hubcaps had to be removed in anticipation of playing ‘top-end frisbee’ at (not with) each other at terminal speeds. That included the beautiful Vette caps.
The only hub cap approved was the Moon Streamliner caps that were screwed onto the rims.
I was thinking 1/4″ whites, and dog dishes with trim rings on body-colored steelies. Plus: Cali emissions. Good for strangling off another 10 HP.
Can you simply pull that pump off and related hoses?
Option #1
Option #2
those are what we have on our 67 RS/SS. and I like this style
Option 1 would make the car look much more like a sleeper.
This is an interesting car. I think who ever ordered it was looking for an “under the radar ” SS driver. P/S and the brake pedal tells us power disc brakes and tail pipe exit on drivers side means that this is a dual exhaust car. Single exhaust exited on passenger side. So I’m guessing 275 hp 4 speed. I hope that thousands of these 60’s cars show up so the prices drop like a rock and I can scoop one up!
pretty sure that air cleaner tells us we are looking at a 210 hp/327!
Very time period color !! …. a lot that is time period about this car. ….. I love it !
I do not think this is a L30/M20 car but it is still nicely optioned with 210 hp/327, disc brakes (rally rims probably under those ugly but stock Camaro hubcaps, just need derby caps and trim rings for option #2) also deluxe interior. and manual tranny (my guess 3 speed) the guy does not even mention the good stuff and asks top dollar, maybe a scam?
Had a 68..sold for $1800 in 1984.wish I had it back
Had a ‘68 RS midnight blue black vinyl roof center console that I put rally wheels on. Hard Waxed the darn thing 2 times a week. You could see the depth 20 feet away. It was VietNam time, I got drafted, told my parents don’t sell my car, I’d send the money for my $92.00 a month payments out of the $1,400 a month the Army paid me and as soon as I went overseas, they sold it for $1,900. without asking me. Then to add insult to injury they tossed my 4’ high collection of Playboys I had kept every month from the early 60’s. Must have thought I wasn’t coming back. Like to have that car now.
Price is a little high but someone will pay it.
A great looking and well optioned car that I would love to own. I’d only make two small changes: replace the aftermarket side mirrors with OEM mirrors and switch to the dog dish hub caps.
Like you, it amazes me these cars keep turning up. I keep thinking we’ve seen them all by now yet this website keeps finding more of them.
This is a Nice car, it’s too bad it’s a repaint, per the owner, original is not original if it’s a repaint, I like the car, a little bit over priced, it will sell tho.
Soooo….the chrome trim on top of the doors and rear passengers window for a deluxe model didn’t come about until 1968 ??????
Searching the vin didn’t find anything, but the 12400 series is a 210 hp. engine.
Love the color. I bought a 67 Malibu new in that color and loved it. Hard to believe a Camaro of that vintage is still around and in such good shape.
IMO: I would take the Brown 390 AMX for less than half the asking price.
I would have to say, ‘Holy ’67 Camaro Batman” since we cannot use other words of description here… I can remember a friend of mines grandmother bought one exactly like this one. I do not remember what the power plant was, but I do remember it was an automatic on the tree. Even at that age I thought that was very weird…
This is what is called a partial RS. Has a few of the options without the badges and stripes. Note the gas cap, deluxe interior and color matching side mirror.
another guy asking Barrett Jackson price without the commissions or the hassle
