Crew Cab Turbo Diesel: 1989 Toyota Hilux

The midsized pickup marketing is heating up with a new offering from Ford. Long before this Ranger’s time, its ancestors would have competed with this 1989 Toyota Hilux turbo diesel, but just not here in the American market. Currently, with import papers, a clean Florida title, and located in Mary Ester, Florida, you can make an offer on this glorious machine or you can buy it now for $30,000. You can view more about it here on eBay.

A current Ford Ranger would have some steep competition against this Hilux. Sitting with right-hand drive and 42,000 miles, this truck should have a 2,446 cc inline 4 cylinder diesel with a manual transmission and four-wheel drive, it can run with the best of anything nowadays. Considering it was a compact truck when new, the modern Hilux resembles a Ranger. Maybe your preference is a retro ride rather than new?

The gray interior looks to be in good shape and well cared for. Thankfully, it does have one noted create comfort, air conditioning. That will prove useful if it stays in Florida or any other southern locations for that matter. The truck does have a VIN listed. Not much else is noted about the trucks history, other than the Japanese import papers and an original 1989 brochure.

Since these were never offered here in the States, it has the appeal of wanting what we could never have. As these trucks pass the 25 year cutoff to import, they might become more common. This is the first one I have written about and I can’t recall seeing any in my time car spotting. Hopefully, I’ll be able to see one in the wild someday. For those in the market for a useful truck but also a great Cars and Coffee attendee, this is it!

Lovely looking Toyota truck. I remember when the Toyota truck looked like this. They were more utilitarian than they are now, which is what I like and miss. I’m not against comfort and safety, but today’s trucks don’t have the functional utility that trucks did back in the 70s through the early 90s. For some reason, not many Diesel powered Toyotas were offered in the United States, not even in Turbo Diesel form.

Beautiful truck, but that’s a crack price. Make sure the head has been replaced.
