Choo Choo Customs, Inc. of Chattanooga, Tennessee was charged by Chevrolet with producing the SS version of the El Camino starting in 1983 and going through 1987. They aren’t quite like earlier SS cars, or even the late ’70s versions of SS cars but they were still great cars. This 1984 example is listed on craigslist in St. Louis, Missouri with a price of $12K.
The history of ownership or the mileage is not in the ad. The owner says that this one is in “excellent” condition. The owner says that the ’84 year model was the lowest production run. According to the Choo Choo Customs Specialty catalog the un-audited production figures are: 1983 – 587, 1984 – 1309, 1985 – 1198, 1986 – 995, 1987 – 861 for a total 4,950.
The CCC inc. logo above and the door tag is pictured below with the “STL-034” production number.
The “STL-34” shown in the decal above signifies, according to the owner, that this car was part of a group giveaway by the Chevrolet Zone (St. Louis) to their dealers in 1984. He claims that there were only 115 white units given away and this one is number 34. Sadly, this car has been resprayed.
We don’t know the facts about the “giveaway”. The un-audited production number of 1984 is 1309 and with the total production below 5,000, making this is a rare car indeed. Are you ready to head on down the road in this El Camino?

I have never liked that kind of wheels / does not even have a floor shift /not nothing to SS abought it / the cheap looking plastic nose don’t help much

Rather have a 59 El Camino..or a 57,58,59 Ford Ranchero.
The El Camino used the Monte Carlo doors, front fenders, dash, seats so forth. The SS Monte front bumper was put on them to dress them up by Choo Choo. Most of these cars had the SS Monte’s wheels on them. So these are just basic El Camino wheels. We still had some of these things on the lot in 1989. We couldn’t give them away. Now if they had put the blue/white vinyl SS seats in this one along with the SS Monte Wheels, it might be worth something.
Never seen a Choo Choo El Camino. A friend of mine has a Choo Choo Firebird. It’s a little overdone with one of those funky body kits that makes if look un-Firebird like, but is a low mileage pristine unmolested example, so it’s a keeper. We owned an 87 Silverado Crew Cab Dually that was a Choo Choo custom. The only things they done to this truck was to paint graphics on the sides, add running boards, a spoiler on the roof, and a really comfortable front seat that did not match the factory rear seat. The custom equipment was all bolt on stuff that one could purchase aftermarket, so to me the custom part did not make this vehicle a stand out. The truck came with a 454 and a four speed manual trans, so it was a workhorse with some fancy do-dads added on. I added a US gear two speed spliter for a total of eight forward gears and two reverse gears. We used the truck to haul a 36 foot 5th wheel RV for many years.
Not my flavor, but not a bad looking machine.. Not too many of them out there, so it would make a nice daily driver.. Maybe take it to car shows here and there..
Some body will want it which is great, but rare doesn’t always mean valuable.
