Donated Truck: 1982 Ford F-250 XL 400 V8

We’ve seen many vehicles from this seller over the years, Just Donated, Inc. out of Orange, California. You can find some interesting vehicles here or some regular vehicles, such as this 1982 Ford F-250 XL pickup. A lot of them need work as is the case here, and you can find this one here on eBay, there is no reserve, and the current bid price is $1,525 with just a day left on the auction.

I don’t mean to say that an ’82 3/4-ton F-250 isn’t interesting, and this one certainly has interesting paint. I’m guessing it’s from the beautiful and powerful Southern California sun and decades of being used, you know, as a truck. There are a few dings around the exterior and the left front fender has been painted at some point, and maybe other areas. We don’t know its history at all.

Ford made the seventh-generation F-Series from 1979 for the 1980 model year until 1986 here, and a year or two longer in other countries. I’m always thinking of critters, rodents, pests, and other creatures in the southwest so when I see an open window like on the topper, or cap, or shell (depending on what you call it), I think that I’d want to check it out pretty well before bedding down in there during a camping or fishing trip. It appears that the rear hatch is missing altogether, but a person could just get another one. Here’s what it looks like inside. That looks like the driver’s door interior trim sitting on the bed floor, in case you’re wondering.

The seller says the dash is cracked, but I don’t see anything other than remnants of dash pad attachment tabs. The driver’s door appears to have an issue or two with cracks but I’m not sure if this truck will be a candidate for a full restoration so whatever is wrong with it could just be fixed and it could be used as is. Again, like the 3/4-ton truck that it is.

The engine is Ford’s 400-cu.in. OHV V8, which would have had 153 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque when new. It’s backed by a three-speed automatic sending power to the rear wheels only, and the seller says it runs and drives but could use new motor mounts and shocks, along with the usual services – fluids, belts, hoses, tires, etc. Hagerty is at $6,500 for a #4 fair-condition truck, how much would you pay for this example?

Someone got a great deal on a tough truck! I didn’t like these for a long time, but they grew on me and they are SO EASY to work on. Heater core is a 1/2 hour at the most. Everything else is super simple also. Earlier Ford trucks are better looking, but these are great all-around trucks.
