Drive It Anywhere! 1970 Chevy Impala Custom Coupe

It’s always interesting to see older cars simply hanging around, maintained but imperfect, executing their intended function by moving people around. It might be insulting to call this 1970 Chevrolet Impala offered here on eBay out of Lincoln, Nebraska “unrestored” because you might argue that it doesn’t really “need” to be restored.

There’s an old saying that you should never car-shop in the rain or trust pictures of a wet car because the water darkens the paint and obscures fading and other imperfections. That said, if you’re looking for an old car to drive around there’s little else to complain about. Seriously; the seller says “…original 350 runs great… I would have no problem driving this across the country, ” and the icing on the cake:  “AC blows cold.” How often do you look at a car like this and expect the AC to blow cold? Answer:  practically never.

While the fastback may be more sporty, the formal roof-line on Chevy’s large coupe is handsome, and the five-slot wheels are even more popular today then when this car was new. These triple recessed taillights were part of a facelift for 1970, the last year of the fourth-generation body. At the time of this writing, 34 bids have taken the price to a very 1970-like $3,550.

While Green on Green may not be your thing, the interior is more than serviceable. Even with a few tears those seats could likely carry you coast to coast in comfort. Dual pine tree air fresheners – perfect for covering up the olfactory sins of your past. The tilt wheel is another nice touch. Though the back seat is not shown, we might assume that the population of Nebraska is one or two greater because of it. These days you’re more likely to see a perfectly restored 1970 Impala than a driver. Is this car destined for a bunch of Year-One boxes and the Saturday car show circuit, or could it give another 120,000 miles as a purposeful used car?
