Drive Anywhere Survivor: 1955 Cadillac Series 62

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

A running, driving, and surviving classic Cadillac is hard to turn down. With all of the elegant classic looks you would want out of car, with a wonderful power-plant, this Series 62 Caddy is a real beauty. Ready to “drive anywhere” this sleek and beautiful mist green Cadillac is a nice condition survivor offered for $9,500. Check it out here on craigslist out of Agency, Missouri.

With a new Holley carb and fresh tires, the seller is quite confident in this old Cadillac. The 331 V8 is in good health but the exhaust system needs some work. The seller also mentions that the shocks could stand to be replaced as well. This Caddy has some other needs, but as to what they are is unclear. Although it would seem whatever else is needed is minor due to the seller’s confidence in this fine old machine.

We do not get much of an interior view of this car, but the exterior is more than enough to grab your attention to investigate further. With a few dings, a crease, and a few areas of worn paint, most of what appears to be factory paint is still in place. There are a few areas where the paint has chipped on the passenger side of the car and there is also a minor crease in the rear door on the passenger side as well. Still quite shiny, the paint has only a few areas that suffer from wear, and there is also little to see in the way of rust. The only apparent rust is on the passenger front fender where the missing trim piece would sit on the front of the fender. With this rust appearing superficial and surface based, it would seem this Caddy is quite solid. Nice enough to enjoy as is, where would you dare to drive this American classic?

I wonder how much this owner thinks his car would be worth if fully restored.

It’s not in bad shape from what we can see. On price, you have to start somewhere… this seller just picked the stratosphere. Taking pictures of a wet car is an old trick to make them appear better than they are. While he was at it, he could have at least grabbed one of the engine and a few of the inside.

Maybe he thought soaking the engine and interior would damage it!

That’s a $3000 car. Needs exhaust. Why a Holley? Just fix the Rochester. Stone axe technology and everything fits.
If a really nice interior, maybe a bit more. Not a bad car, but not much market. Put a hitch on it an pull a period travel trailer. Better go modern brakes, tho.

Agree with you on the value and the carb. I assume if the interior was worth taking photos of he would have included some shots.

That rear passenger door has more than just a “minor scrape”, it will require a new skin or used door to properly repair.

Which is very hard or next to impossible to find nowadays. Back in the 60’s & 70’s there were bodymen who could work wonders, today the only one’s with that kind of skill set are only doing very high dollar restorations and are few and far between.

How much trauma is put on the car changing a door? Changing the whole door color, or possibly getting the door to hang well. Or a door skin, (Can you even BUY skins for 1955 cars?) then removing the gasket, glass and glass channels, painting to match? None of this is necessary while just working out the dent. Even if you are not so good as to TOTALLY metal finish it, a little bondo seems to me to be a decent trade off to all that work and trauma.
But hey, if you know a body man that good, prep it for him, pay him his price to put it right in bare metal. Could it cost $150/ hour? 3 hours, maybe? Maybe I’m out of touch?

“I see a Cadillac and I want it painted black.
No colors anymore, I want it to turn black.
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes,
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes….
I see a line of Cadillacs and they’re all painted black,
With flowers and my love, both never to come back”.

This is the EXACT car that I learned to drive on. I must have been 7 or 8 and my grandfather let me drive it on some old logging trails in northern Wisconsin. With my mother, grandmother, sister & baby brother in the car all I remember is them getting increasingly annoyed and begging me to Slow Down.

The car had a huge steering wheel with power steering that my grandpa thought was so cool because he could steer with one finger at 6 o’clock. The power brakes worked on travel, not on pressure so the braking increased just from pedal travel. Easy to send your passengers toward the windshield. No seat belts, of course.

The car was big enough to seat 6 on the way to church or on the hour-long ride to Wausau. Very fond memories. Thanks for the find.
