Only in 1960s and 1970s America would this much engine in this little (relatively) car make sense! This 1971 Plymouth Cuda is listed for sale here on eBay, where over 15 bids have already raised the total to $8,800 and any reserves have been met. The car is located in Ridgecrest, California. Thanks to reader Patrick S. for sending us this find!
Thankfully, the seller has cleaned the car up and has also removed some of the body filler present to expose some damage. Nothing a good patch panel here and there won’t fix, but the amount of filler is surprising, and it looks to me that in some places it was applied over rusty metal.
One of those places is in the rear corners of the car. The seller touts the car as being rust free but frankly, it isn’t. That doesn’t mean the car isn’t worth buying, but just make sure you see what you are getting into. Those are brand new tires according to the seller.
I’ll grant the car looks more solid than most 70s Mopars underneath. The seller tells us that “…everything appears to be there except the grill, rear seats and the dash.”
Even the floors look surprisingly solid. The seller tells us the car was originally Sherwood Green (the color on the door jambs) but to be honest, I like the blue better, especially with blue interior components.
Not quite the way I’d like the engine to look, but again, you know what you are getting into. Although this is originally a 383 V8/4-speed car, the transmission you see is not numbers matching (although the 383 is).
I like this better than the 69 Camaro Pace Car. Already at $14,500 with a little over 2 days left.
Sold for $22,001

Nice compared to the typical Cuda/Challenger barn find. A no reserve auction lets the market speak.
Does anyone else wonder when the orange Cuda comes up for sale?

Wow don’t find many with rear fenders that still have the aerodynamics in my area of Pennsylvania! I once owned an (M-code)Barracuda that needed lots of rot repairs but regret selling, due to the options it came with, still looking to this day!
Why would Plymouth go from 2 headlites, to 4 in ’71, & then back to 2 for ’72-4?
I don’t get it. Good luck if the ’71 grill breaks. lol
All versions look kewl, tho – especially on Mannix.
As a lifetime mopar lover (over 200 from 1933 to 2004) I never tire of looking at those large pistons, valves, and those oversize valve springs in the foreground of the pics, esp when compared to those new econoboxes with the 1.4 liter engines. Too bad the pictures can’t convey the lope of the exhaust and the smell of the burnt rubber, and the lovely smell of 102+ octane fuel.
Gills……fender tag….solid…..and gone………
