Dusty And Unloved: 1965 Dodge Dart

dart

This barn find Dart has obviously been stationary for a while. Located in Easton, Pennsylvania, and up for sale here on eBay, the auction opened at $500 without a reserve and hasn’t progressed far from that point. The pictures show a fairly straight four-door sedan with minor rust starting to appear at the seams, but nothing major. They also show what may be the world’s grimiest rear seat; not sure what lived back there but it sure wasn’t clean! I like the lines on this generation of Dart, and so did the American public, buying over 180,000 of them in 1964. The 270 model was the middle of the range, above the 170 but below the GT. The steel wheels and fairly wide tires give this car a very period, purposeful look, although a set of center dog-dish hubcaps wouldn’t look out of place. I’m wondering why the middle part of the front door and lower part of the front fender on the left side seem to be whiter or cleaner than the rest of the car? Maybe a repaint? Anyway, with a slant six, I’m guessing it wouldn’t take too much to put this car back on the road. With some interior work and cleaning the white house paint drips off the front fenders, you might convince me the car was loved!

Nothing to think about here. Just transplant a wedge drive train and job complete…the ultimate sleeper! ^_^

By the way, here in Minnesota we’d call this car very little rust. In fact I’d be tempted to exaggerate and call it no rust, but not in an ad for sale…

Sleeper? I’d keep it stock myself, but if you choose to build a sleeper, the whole frontend unbolts and a new front end for this A body is only about $3500, including disk brakes, rack and pinion steering and mounts for that 440. Sounds like fun.

That will put some zoom-zoom into this car.

could be a fun project either way. most of the pics of the underside appear to show only surface rust. Get it road worthy, wash it, clean the inside and daily drive until you have money for a go over.

With all the mildew and rot inside, reckon it was flooded?

I agree it looks as if that interior has been wet at some time and just left it to dry while parked. Maybe not flooded but someone could have left the windows down during a rain then parked it in the garage to dry with windows up.

Looks quite nice to me! The 225 is no slouch either, believe it or not. The web is full of info on performance upgrades for these engines, but I prefer the idea of going for several hundred thousand miles rather than really fast and not so far.

My grandma had one. The taillights reminded me of cherry Ludens cough drops. Lol

I bought this car! Just got it home yesterday morning after a 24 hour drive to PA and back. She runs great, already had it out around the neighborhood. A little minor work and it’ll be a great car for the summer. Just wanted to thank you for turning me onto it!
