This 1977 Dodge D100 pickup sports the desirable combination of four wheel drive and a reliable 318 under the hood. Now, the 318 isn’t exactly a fire breather, but it is generally pretty bulletproof – even if this truck doesn’t run at the moment. The seller notes that it was an estate sale find that was running when they picked it up, but now that’s it’s been sitting, the engine has fallen silent. The good news is it is largely solid underneath, with apparently only one rust spot of any significance. The Dodge is offered here on eBay with no reserve, and bidding is quite light at the moment at just $2,950.
That’s noting for a project truck these days, especially one that’s equipped with four wheel drive and doesn’t appear to be modified. The Dodge is located in Lincoln City, Oregon, which is a great place to start when hunting for vintage tin in driver-grade condition. The bed looks solid as well despite not having a cap or a tonneau cover, but the paint is pretty beat. The Dodge was clearly used as intended, and that’s not a bad thing – especially if you don’t want to feel any pangs of guilt about throwing your own crap in the back. The seller doesn’t sound they’re particularly in love with old Mopars, so I suspect you’re buying it from someone who just got lucky at an estate sale.
There’s nothing wrong with that, of course, but you may be on your own in terms of diagnosing why the 318 no longer fires up. The engine bay isn’t overly clean but it just looks used up at the moment. That’s potentially a good sign, that the truck was perhaps being used daily as a lot of folks in the Pacific Northwest have no qualms about dailying a car or truck from the 1980s or earlier. The odometer reads just over 60,000 miles but who knows if that’s accurate; the seller reports that the tags expired in 2005 and the Dodge was put up in storage from that point forward. The listing notes that since it was retrieved from the estate sale, it has also developed a coolant leak.
The interior is good not great; again, this was someone’s driver, not a truck put away for long-term safe keeping. The interior doesn’t look too bad aside from the torn up bench seat upholstery; this is a perfect candidate for a big, funky blanket to throw over the tattered remains of the seat. The truck really isn’t worth enough to justify a proper upholstery job, so I’d live with this and the solitary rust spot for the time being if I were to be the next owner. The D100 won’t likely become a collector’s item anytime soon, but it’s hard to go wrong with anything that has a 318 under the hood in terms of low cost of ownership over the long haul. What would you willing to pay for this estate sale find truck?
If it has 4WD it’s not a D100, it’s a W100!!
Did you check the ceramic piece on the firewall? Sometimes they put them on the intake.
D Equals 2 wheel drive
W equals 4 wheel drive
D is a RWD
W is a 4WD
Come on folks, do your research.
Needs some luv but it’s worth doing if you don’t overpay. Please note the seller calls this truck that they got from an estate sale a “one owner” truck. It is probably still registered under the previous owner’s name but the truth is the seller is the owner, the second owner. It’s a common distortion of the truth used by car flippers and is a subtle warning that anyone thinking of buying this truck should heed. It means the seller has a relative relationship to the truth of things and that any information emanating from them should be verified. Anything unverifiable should be viewed with skepticism. The intentional omission of important information is considered to be a form of dishonesty.
Ads like this always get my radar going. I’m not meaning to pick on this person, the circumstances are most likely as he says.
This truck interests me and I have 2 good 360 motors in my garage looking for an engine bay to call home.
and obviously the author isn’t a Mopar lover either.D100 is a two wheel drive. W is a four wheel drive truck.
Seller says to let him know if any questions. I asked the same question twice and am still waiting for a response,
