While this 1970 Chevelle convertible does not say it was ever on fire, years of exposure to the elements make it look like an extra crispy hunk of metal from a rust bucket menu item, if there were such a thing. Having no roof, and either a decayed or missing interior, there are no floor boards or frame anymore. They have eroded away and all that is left is a shell of fenders and doors. You can find for sale here on eBay.
The engine is a small block V8 and is connected to a 350 transmission. It has 150,000 miles on it. The hood opens, but the under hood stamping stays in place. Years of decay have created a very unique circumstance for this car and all its rust. The VIN is missing the last two digits. Even so, the title is clean.
The paint was at one time dark cherry as designated by the 78 on the VIN, which is still a visible part of the VIN. The best view of the paint is on the trunk. The iconic white stripes are still visible as well. One can see a hole in the rust near the window trim. Surface rust would be a relief but alas, that is not the case.
At a current price of $7,500, it will need very extensive work, sourced parts, and deep pockets to get this car road worthy again. With that in mind, having a 1970 Chevelle SS Convertible, would be an admirable accomplishment in the end. If you plan on purchasing it, keep in mind it is somewhere close to New Jersey and it does not move. It will require some delicate recovery skills to haul it out and tow it home.
$7500?? And the listing is gone so can we assume it actually sold? Wow.
Fred Flintstone would love this car…
I called the seller car was sold!! I follow this guy on Instagram his account name is RobF70 he finds some cool stuff. There where also some more pics of the car in it’s as found state on IG. Keep in mind, 70 chevelle convertibles are doing 60-80k restored and more as a resto mods. They make everything to fix Them. It might not make sense to build to the average guy… specially with what these body guys are getting just to paint cars these days, but someone who doesn’t care about money and wants to build something from scratch doesn’t really have a cheaper option.
This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing.
I think I’d rather have the ’70 Monte behind it.
You are in luck, the seller has that one listed too.
Steve R
Never seen a hood separate like that. Maybe they removed the listing when they realized it couldn’t be removed in one piece.
Weezer has a song called hash pipe. Obviously this seller/flipper mistakenly thought the song was crack pipe….
I am pretty sure this is actually a 50 thousand mile car.
😜. I am also with a two percent confidence level
sure most will buff out on the paint and armeral will fix interior.
I am amazed on pricing these days 🙃😮
I have one word to describe this one…. Crazy ..
Whoever let that car get that way needs to be put in jail. Anyway that car is only good for its VIN.
If you click the link, it goes to a 70 Chevelle 4 door 307 powerglide in much better shape…and at it’s current price of $5400.00, is a much better deal…as for the original story, it’s not even a parts car…it’s 2 rainstorms away from turning to mulch…
There was no small-block Chevelle SS in 1970, and the ad never claimed it was an SS.
also it has the malibu dash with the sweeping speedo instead of the round one !
I think this is best left as the cool “Yard Art” it is, in its current location.
Perhaps if ambitious, you could scoop up the earth beneath the car with one big front end loader scoop and gently unload the scoop into a different yard.
Sounds like that youtuber that barnfinds 70 chevelle SS and yenkos that are always barnfinds and worth millions. Constantly repeating himself to justify the values he assigns to wrecks just this turd to weak minded full wallet individuals. Look him up, it is always good for a laugh.
It really irritates me that E-bay no longer shows a listing after it’s closed! How about you?
You can still click on the old listing and have a look.
Not on my e-bay. It’s GONE.
For those less computer savvy, where it states:
“The listing you’re looking for is no longer available. Check out this similar item we found for you”
The word “listing” is a link to the original ad, just click on it, sheesh.
The reason they ask a price like that for that pile of rust is because — If someone has a Malibu convertible in decent condition all they have to do is rebadge it and put this vin onto it. Of course an over simplification but just remember stamped numbers are easy to grind off and restamp. Or … steal a real chevelle SS and (tag it) switch vins. Welcome to the real world 😊
Doesn’t do any good to switch vin numbers on these unless you have paperwork verifying SS. The vin numbers don’t do that after 68. In 69 they just pulled a chevelle off assembly line and installed the SS packages. Only the build Sheet showed what came on the car. The only exception is a couple color paints out of Canada.
Pretty handy though to look at a pile of crap in your yard that you need to deal with, throw a cheap ad on eBay and someone cleans up your back yard and hands you money…
Having said that I expect there is no market for this one because even if you wanted the firewall and vin he says half the vin is gone to so there is really zero value.
Last 2 digits missing from the VIN?
Perhaps this was a stolen car.
I had a mid-70’s Firebird that rusted in just the right way as to make the hood open but not the under structure. It takes just the right (?) channeling underneath to run rainwater underneath for years, rotting away the lightly-painted stamped reinforcement. Add the famous GM insulation that trapped rainwater and ….
Good point guys. I didn’t actually look at the add but I do know the game played by some ! It’s the same reason that burned out shells of late model high end cars still sell for more than scrap value at salvage auctions They are really buying the title and VIN. That’s why you will see some of those adds that say clean title (doesn’t show salvage) Those command more money.
Wrong dash for an SS
Yep, a OLD CLONE, they made them back in the day also.
Bodies for sale through OPGI. All you would need is the VIN & Tag plate. On your way to 100k vehicle.
I sold a 55 chevy conv to a fellow in texas; it was worse than this, and the only thing he used was the bows, the firewall and VIN. 5500 and he was glad to get it. He said it was well worth the price. I sold it in February and it won first place at a fathers day car show the same year!!! Amazing!!!
No thanks
Well I don’t know what all u others think but if this guy says this car has been sitting there along time I say no you just have to look at the grass below the cars interior its green and short .
Someone should be responsible for this tragety
The price should move the decimal point to the front of the 7. 75 cents would be more like it.
R U Kidding!
Unless this is an extraordinarily, rare SS454 LS6 convertible, one of either 18 or 21 born that way, it isn’t worth the tetanus shot required if you touch it. That being said if it was one of the uber rare LS6 convertibles the cowl tag alone is worth the asking price for the entire wreck.
Well it’s the holy f%*€>>€><~ grail? Almost, mean besides a documented Canadian ls6??? If I had money I would pay? Truthfully I like original bodies, original trunk original floors, I sold a worse than this Gto rag to a guy and went back later to see spot welded bonds covered remake , and I thought if the car ever got hit it would fold up like an accordion with all the welds and bondo going south. But a 70 ss convert, yup rebody the pup. I’m not in it for the financial gain, I’m glad some cars didn’t have the original motor cuz I couldn’t have bought them. I hear a lot of whining about money , maybe some car guys are also accountants to each his own. The day I say oh I can’t get x y and z for my car cuz I’m over budget is the day you can throw dirt on me. Plus I’ve waited years to run a car cuz I didn’t have the cash to move forward just the cash to hold on. I think most would do the same as this guy, he’ll i probably would have started higher than 7500, actually no , you start with a rag frame , blah blah bla yadiddy yadiddy ya Ok that’s enough
“Dust to Dust “
It must be CRUSTY week here on Barn Finds.LOL. Bruce.
$7500? The guy is on some very potent glue!
Apperently not it sold
As a kid back in the 50s and early 60s, We were always told a car was a good deal as long as the radio worked. Sorry, no radio here. I’m out…………..
Buyer has more money than brains. Not a true SS. Two digits missing means walk away. Wrong Speedo and no SS had a small block. The cost to restore this pile of garbage far exceeds value. Ten to 15 years ago, this car would be scrap turned I to a new Honda.
What a shame,no a sin to let a car of this caliber decay like this.
Listing ended by seller due to an error.
