Eye Candy: 1965 Chevrolet El Camino

left front

This El Camino is listed on craigslist for a reasonable $8,800 in Quincy, Michigan. This may not be to your taste, but it’s had extensive restoration, including a new frame, interior and brakes. With the little 307 V8 and automatic, it is no tire burner, but it should be a nice driver.

inside

The interior has been nicely redone. It’s plain but functional.

engine

Things are very tidy under the hood but rather bare. Power steering and AC would be nice.

right rear

It looks pretty nice from this side as well. Unless there’s lots of bondo under that paint, this looks like a reasonably priced nice El Camino. I wonder what it drives like and what you’d see if you looked closer. Perhaps it’s just eye candy that’s been cleverly photographed. It will be interesting to see what you readers have to say about this little truck. Would you enjoy it as it is, or would you upgrade the engine and suspension?

What’s with the yellow spark plug wires??? Nice looking El Camino, but wonder why a new frame had to be installed? Engine looks clean. Yeah, check for bondo…… especially since the car is in Michigan.

Why a new frame, the car is in Michigan. I think you answered your own question.

My uncle in Michigan restored a 1971 3/4 ton 4×4 Chevy pickup a few years ago. It needed to have the frame replaced. Lots of rust, but he bought it new so there was some sentimental value.

As for the yellow plug wires, it needed wires. Napa had yellow ones.

My dad had a 1964 El Camino that he got new. My grandmother (my mom’s mom) bought it for him. I loved driving it and it was left to me in his will. But the estate attorney sold it out from under me before I knew what was happening. It had to have left town as I haven’t run across it. Pretty red truck! It came with a 283 and was a fast running critter!

Typical 60s GM frame issues in the rust belt. Choice ? Either gusset and repair frame or replace it . Body probably had work done, as the body line down the middle of the right bedside sure isn’t crisp.
Probably a good driver but looks to be a little tired.

Engine and tranNie swap too. 307 wasn’t available then. Bet at one time it was a stick, based on the small brake pedal

Maybe ugly to you, but they are period correct for this vehicle.

I hate to be negative, but who puts white door panels when the rest of the interior is black? It looks like it was done purposely.

I had a 65 almost 30 years ago. Was a 327 4 speed. Gold with gold interior. Swapped the rear end for a 67 Chevelle 12 bolt. Man that truck would haul more than groceries. Wish I still had it.
