Family Option: Equinox Snowcoach

Snowmobiles are a brilliant transport option for those living in harsh climates, but they come with one important limitation; They can’t carry a family. For those craving adventures in a winter wonderland, this Equinox Snowcoach could be the ideal solution. It is effectively a snowmobile trailer, capable of carrying an extra adult or a couple of children in comfort and safety. This one needs a home, with the seller listing it here on Facebook in Danville, Vermont. They recently slashed the price, meaning it could be yours for $2,600. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Rocco B for this fascinating find.

Snowmobiles. Their inventor designed them with a single purpose; To access inhospitable terrain when winter transforms the ground from brown to white. Their most significant limitation is passenger capacity. One company, Equinox Industries, saw the potential of an enclosed sled that carried an adult or two children safely and comfortably. Thus the Snowcoach emerged with a body made from sturdy polyethylene to minimize the possibility of damage caused by bumping trees or camouflaged rocks. It rides on composite skis, although the company also offers a wheel conversion kit so its owner can hook it to an ATV when the snow thaws. Equinox sold the Snowcoach in five colors, with this one wearing its original Black. Its body is in good condition, with no evidence of cracks or other problems. The Black finish has oxidized and would benefit from some old-fashioned elbow grease and polish. The panoramic windows look clear and scratch-free, while the rear light is intact.

The Snowcoaches interior is practical, featuring a single seat and a pair of seat belts to carry one adult or two children with a maximum weight of around 350lbs. The seat wears a waterproof canvas cover that is easy to clean, with the remaining surfaces requiring little more than a wipe with a damp cloth to appear at their best. The seatcover in this Snowcoach looks dirty and may need work to address the issue. Alternatively, replacements are readily available for around $200. For those wishing to escape the winter chill completely, this beauty features a functional twelve-volt heater to keep occupants as snug as a bug in a rug.

As a passionate enthusiast, I’ve been lucky to drive many exciting and desirable vehicles. However, a snowmobile isn’t one that I’ve experienced. For those wishing to avoid the hardships involved, snuggling back in this Equinox Snowcoach with the heater pumping out warm air could offer an attractive alternative. It also represents one of the safest ways to transport your most valuable assets, your children, in safety. Do you live somewhere that would make this Snowcoach a viable investment? Would you consider parking it beside a snowmobile in your garage?

My buddy has something similar, he has a disabled son and the boy loves riding in it. The heater would be a big help. Cool find.

I sled a couple thousand miles a year. I see more of these in Quebec than I do in the UP of Michigan. Probably because it is much colder in Quebec and a lot more remote with longer hauls between towns and gas.

My first thought was that my Husky may want to pull this. I talked to him, and he pointed out that it would need a front ski, and he would need some friends to help. Still an interesting find. I cannot say that I have seen one before.

I see this and I think about how (as a teenager) my friends back in New Brunswick drove snow mobiles. I don’t believe it would be upright after the first turn.

For whom these are designed to haul, a snowmobile driver wouldn’t be driving in a fashion to overturn them.
