Ferrari 328GTS: Ultimate Project

ferrari328gts

We’ve seen posts on these pages that show rack after rack of wrecked Porsche 356s in the background, appearing more like a hoarder-grade auto body shop frozen in time. Now, a new contender for world’s most exotic repair specialist has arrived, this time with racks stacked with Ferrari bodies. The car for sale here on eBay is a late-80s Ferrari 328GTS body, with no chassis, interior or mechanical equipment included. Said to be a great answer for someone who has crashed their 328, I don’t think buying an entire, non-matching body shell is the most logical solution, but I suppose it’s a better answer than just sending it to the crusher. It would also make for some excellent garage wall art, but you’ll need to shell out close to $20,000 for the privilege. What do you think the future holds for this 328GTS body shell?

I guess this is what you are left with after you part out a Ferrari 328 GTS. Actually, it does have a chassis—just no suspension / running gear / drivetrain / interior / etc / etc. These cars have a basic tube frame with stiffeners and substructures welded on, which the body panels are attached to.

I don’t know what you do with this. It needs literally thousands of large and small parts that would cost a fortune to buy separately, which is why the seller of this body / chassis wants you to buy all that stuff from him. Hmmm—seller gets old Ferraris, takes just about everything off them, and then wants to sell you all that stuff piece by piece to go on the body / chassis that he sells you. Really??

These cars have been appreciating lately but I don’t see this as a way to get one. Far better to buy a whole car even if you have to take out a loan. At least you will have an appreciating, whole, running, driving asset instead of a pile of parts that you have to figure out how to put together.

The seller doesn’t list a VIN or say anything about a title. If you are going to use this to fix your crashed Ferrari you had better know that information and how it meshes with the laws of your state. Buyer beware on this deal.

As for myself, as much as I would want that red 308GT/4 hanging up on the wall as a whole car to drive—no thanks.

Looking at the wall, it would appear this isn’t the first car he’s totally stripped out for parts.

I wonder if he has figured out the EXACT number of how may parts are on any given mid eighties Ferrari.

He sure has had several tries and should know it by now !

Maybe that’s the place where the Fast ‘n Loud crew got the parts they needed for the F40 they put together.

Must be making money somehow…but I’d love to know who buys a completely stripped 328/308 shell.
