Ford 4 By 4 For You: 1979 F-150

This 1979 Ford F-150 pickup is one of the newer vehicles I’ve ever written up for Barn Finds. Although I might have socks that are older, at thirty-seven years old this truck is eligible for historic license plates in most areas of the country. It can be found for sale here on craigslist, and apparently located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The asking price is $4,500.

The seller says it’s equipped with the 460 engine which has been recently updated, and fitted with a four-barrel carb and aluminum intake. The truck has 107,000 miles on it, and the seller says it is the “last of the good ones”, and that it’s very solid.

A look inside and under the hood suggests the bright orange color might be original. I think this is a nice color combination for this truck, although it seems it was a lot more commonly used on the Ford trucks made in the late sixties and early seventies. The wheels appear to be 1990s-vintage OEM Ford, and I think they look good here too.

If it were mine, I wouldn’t want to change a whole lot with this one, but I would definitely look into putting some A/C together for it.

With the newer wheels and the older paint scheme, this truck might be thought of having a little bit of the best of both worlds. What do you think?

Definitely loves those rims. Brings me back to childhood. Both of my father’s F150’s had these and I’m tempted to put a set on my truck,

Lighter suspension but this is another I’d take over one on a dealer lot.

This truck will probably be worth 3 times the asking price ten years from now. 1960’s to early 1970’s trucks were $5,000 to $7,500 ten years ago and now you can’t find a decent one for less than $10,000 and nice ones pull over $25,000. Priced right and solid, I think this will be a profitable opportunity for the buyer. Trucks have a hard time becoming valuable and properly appreciated by the market, but almost never decrease in value once they do. I live in Ohio, (truck country) I could put this for sale in my front yard and ask $6,500.00 for it. Especially with it being a 4×4, good opportunity for a truck lover.

I’ve had two of these They’re great trucks and I love the look. The down side is fuel mileage. It will be somewhere between 5~6/gal. My 76 got eight after a tune up and I was thrilled. If you could transplant a more efficient engine with comparable power, then you’d have something.

would like it better with a manual trans. i too think these are going up in value and poor MPG can be an issue. still a nice truck at a nice price. nice find.

I do not know the values for these trucks but it seems like a good deal given the condition, engine and awesome color combination. I love everything about this truck except the rims.

I know this truck, and have actually been inside it. It has been well taken care of over the years, most people from the Southern part of Missouri do, because most of the folks in this area are farm families that have been thought to take care of what you got. This is a very nice truck,I go to Cape a lot because I still have family in the Cape/Jackson area, I spent a lot of summers as a kid on a farm not 30 mile south of Cape near Charleston. But I saw this truck back during the summer and asked to look at it. I am telling you folks it is worth the money. It is one Nice solid 79!!!!!

Real nice truck and it is priced right. F150 was my first and favorite vehicle. I have a 1991 daily driver at the moment. I payed $400 and put a floor, tires, exhaust, and breaks on it and have been driving for 3 years now. I just wish I had one that was this clean.
