Formula To Cheap Fun: 1979 Pontiac Firebird

1979-firebird

We’ve been watching the values of Firebirds closely lately and have noticed a steady trend in values, they are going up. I remember when you could buy a nice late ’70s Firebird or Camaro for nearly nothing, but those days might be past. They really are fun cars with plenty of potential locked away, waiting to be set free. This example is pretty rough, but the seller has set a BIN of just $1,800. At that price, it might just be worth looking at! You can find it here on eBay in Gulf Breeze, Florida.

Obviously, by ’79 emissions and safety equipment had reduced some of the Firebird’s performance, but the basic design went unchanged for 11 years. With the right upgrades and parts, you could give this bird back some of it’s bite! Sadly, it’s in pretty rough shape and will need quite a bit of work to just get it back on the road. I guess on the upside of that, you can install whatever upgrades you want while your at it and have a sweet machine when your done!

It’s really amazing how much the value of these cars has gone up in the past year. I can see the appeal of one of these though, it’s the last of a breed. For the price, this one might be a good buy if you happen to live nearby, but shipping could be a deal breaker. So what do you think of this Firebird?

unless it’s an sd455 my interest in ‘birds stops at 1974. once they pick up the curved rear window i’m done.

Seller claims the car has never been wrecked, but there seems to be a lot of cracking over the driver side rear wheel. And the hood gaps seem to be off

The hood gaps seem to be off? Did GM really care about accurate hood gaps in 1979????

    Probably a tag job…

Does it really matter if the hood gaps are off ?? It’s a car from an era when America actually made cars … Buy it fix it up and drive it like you stole it !! They don’t make em like that anymore…
