Four-Speed 500! 1970 Dodge Charger

Dodge hit a home run with its second generation Charger, and this 1969 Dodge Charger 500 in Lascassas, Tennessee is guaranteed to turn Mopar fans in your neighborhood green with envy. Offered here on eBay, the never-restored classic has at least eight bidders nibbling, beyond $15,000 with over a week to go. A clean but non-original 1971 383 represents the largest deviation from factory on this mostly-original car. Repair panels and other parts come with the sale, and the fender tag describes a factory 383 four-barrel Charger 500 with four-speed manual transmission.

The 383 and four-speed had been removed while undergoing prep and have been installed for ease of transportation, leaving some work for the buyer. I’d gladly take a car in that state compared to one with a rusted and possibly non-rotating block of metal under the hood. Original FF4 Light Green Metallic paint shows here, along with evidence of a blue paint job before the current dark green hue. The lack of fancy accessories and A36 Performance Axle Package of 3.55 gears suggest more than a passing interest in acceleration.

The fender tag decoder at 1970ChargerRegistry shows dark green vinyls bucket seats and the C21 Center Armrest/Buddy Seat option to provide room for a sixth passenger in a pinch, an impossible feat among today’s muscle cars. Rusted floor boards promise the structural integrity of a wet noodle. Three-speed wipers and the N85 Tic-Toc-Tach and clock combination round out a spartan options list.

The sloping sail panels and racing-style gas filler compliment the full-width light panel while circular reverse lights echo the dual exhaust outlets below.

Unlike the 1969 Charger 500’s status as a NASCAR-focused special model sans hidden headlights, the “500” became merely a trim level in 1970, slotted above the base Charger and below the R/T and SE. Buyers of the 500 enjoyed some extra trim and “500” badges along with a sportier suspension and other details, according to lov2xlr8.

Buying metal panels is the easy part, leaving the fun part, installation, to the new owner. At least the seller did more than hope and dream about restoring this double-green Dodge, and give them credit for not completely disassembling the car and offering 17 milk crates and a passing “everything should be in the boxes.” Here you can see what you’re buying thanks to these photos and more, including undercarriage photos in the listing. Green cars often take a hit on final price, helping those who like the oh-so-’70s all-green look. Would you restore this Charger 500 as all-original or change it up a bit?

This might come across as sarcastic, but not meant that way…really good of the seller to reassemble it before selling it.
Cool Car, great drivetrain, could be a good project for someone with more skills than I.

The right fender was blue at one point, so obviously its a replacement , but the car was never blue . The F4 paint code shows it as Lime green Poly

Hated those ‘dog dish’ hubcaps when they were new…and I still hate ’em now.

      Back then, most associated hub
caps with ‘like colored’ taxi cabs.
Original to my ’70 GTX, people
laughed at my car at stoplights.
      I get the last laugh. (440-6; 4spd)
