Front End Optional: 1967 Porsche 912

There is no way to sugar coat it, the Porsche market has exploded! Even the cars once considered to be a “Poor man’s Porsche” are accumulating value with the overall Porsche market. The Porsche 912 is a neat car as it looks like the famous 911, but lacks wider fenders and a few cylinders. While this is no cream puff, this 912 could make for an awesome custom German hot rod for someone that doesn’t want to fork out 911 money. This car holds two different price tags and it is all dependent upon what exactly you want. There are several spares the seller is willing to include with the car but at the price tag of $12,000, or you can buy this car with no front end and no spares for $8,000. Take a look at this Porsche here on craigslist out of Concord, California. Thanks to Nathan Avots-Smith for submitting this Porsche find!

The exterior of this 912 looks fair and the spare parts the seller is including appear enticing enough to consider. There are several spare doors, as well as a transmission, though the seller is unsure of it being a 4 speed or 5 speed.

While the spares are interesting, the body does have some rust concerns. Although this car isn’t as rough as some, there is some typical rot near the jack points and the lower rocker areas. Also there is some rust around the rear window as well. There is a complete set of glass with this roller, but the windshield is cracked. The driver side floor looks decent, so this Porsche may be more solid than it seems. Multiple wheels are shown on this car but the seller is including a set Fuchs, although with two different sizes and two are not authentic. With great German hot rod potential, do you think this 912 is worth the sellers asking prices?

Brian, this is absurd. About the asking price. To get this to a presentable driver, never mind restoration, is North of $55,000.00 weather you do your own wrenching or not. Pass.

That is a silly/stupid price for a rusty hulk that needs everything that has any value. It will cost way more, just in parts, to get it back on the road than if you just went out and bought a beautiful driver or a recently restored example. Including the price of the car, that and the body repair alone is going to cost what a running and driving ’67 912 is worth today. It’s still a 912, this is not a ’67 911S. Crack pipe price, something that would have been cut up and put in a dumpster only five years ago.

Is every Porsche in the world for sale? Are they rotating among owners? They’re a damn VW. Good luck. Never saw the attraction. Want to talk special? Let’s talk Shelby Cobras. Now you have my interest.
