As economic and regulatory changes in the early 1970s began to affect the auto industry, brands had to develop new ways to make their vehicles more interesting and more compelling. Given Lincoln’s position in the market, they weren’t aiming to win buyers concerned with fuel economy. Their buyers were looking for something luxurious and comfortable. Enter the Mark IV, with its massive hood, big 460 V8, and one of the smoothest rides you could get. Even today, you will have a hard time finding a car more comfortable to cruise in as this 1974 Lincoln Mark IV. The seller, Lou, is a long-time reader and wants to see this beauty go to a fellow reader, so he’s offering it here as a Barn Finds Auction! It’s located in Pensacola, Florida.

Lou is upfront about this land yacht not being a trailer queen, but it sure looks great in the photos! He had one of the professional photographers take the pictures, which you can view in the photo gallery below. The Pastel Lime paint and vinyl roof is uniquely ’70s style. It’s a striking color combo that is sure to make this one stand out.

While you might be expecting to find a cabin covered in leather, this one was optioned with cloth upholstery. It’s actually a rather pleasant change-up from the usual Corinthian leather found in most luxury cruisers of this era. It looks to be free of damage or stains and looks as comfortable as you would expect from a Lincoln. The heavy pile carpets show minimal signs of wear, same with the touch surfaces. Clearly, this was a well cared for car from day one, and the interior’s condition backs up the 41k miles shown on the odometer.

Under the hood, we find Lincoln’s 460 cui V8 paired with a 4-barrel carburetor and a 3-speed automatic. The engine is said to run well and was recently treated to new belts, a coolant flush, and a new stainless steel exhaust system. The car has also recently received new tires, Bilstein shocks, a new heater core, and a heater control valve.

The seller claims the car hasn’t ever been driven in the rain or even at night. It’s condition, inside and out, would seem to corroborate that claim. Other than some bubbles forming around the fender lips, the car is said to be rust free and very solid. Be sure to check out the underside and engine bay photos below!

While the mileage is low, it isn’t so low that you won’t want to drive it. It’s honestly at the perfect mileage to be a classic you can use regularly. Admittedly, you’re going to be topping up the 26-gallon fuel tank more frequently than your wallet will appreciate, but this is the perfect weekend driver. Just imagine taking your significant other out on a date in it on Saturday night, brunch on Sunday, and Cars and Coffee in the afternoon. It’s sure to be a hit everywhere you take it and you can’t beat the smooth ride of a Mark IV! Let us know what you think of this Lincoln in the comments and don’t hesitate to ask Lou any questions you might have about it.

I had a ’78 Givenchy Series with the 460, Quadrasonic sound system, and “anti-skid” braking … traded my 1977 Corvette … great road car and the best music experience … bucket list is to find one just like it, along with a ’57 TBird with 312 E/F engine … …

it has the rumble of just what that engine should sound like. unlike the wimpy sewing machine sounds of today’s vehicles.

After selling hundreds of vehicles out of state. Just go to the local DMV where you purchase the vehicle with all your paperwork. ( title, bill of sale and proof of insurance) and get a transport/moving permit. Sometimes they are free, but most states will charge you about $1.50 per day. Nevada is $15. for a 15 day permit. And although they will tell you that it is only “legal ” in the issuing state. I find that all states honor it for a reasonable time limit. (As long as you are not doing anything stupid.)

Reminds me of my old “ghetto cruiser” with dwarves in the trunk that jumped out and assisted with parking! Mine was “Caucasian colored with leather interior! The wife called it “calf-sh*t yellow! Was a great car! If you punch it you can watch the gas guage go down as the speedometer goes up. Fond memories!

these cars drove smooth and would be tough to get smoother but this long sleek automobile couldn’t make even five inches more of legroom in the backseat? You practically had to sit sideways or with your feet on the seat cause there was zero legroom and that’s with a 12 year old child. To put an adult back there would take a shoehorn

These weren’t about hauling people. Cars like this stroked your ego letting others know you’ve got it going on.

nelson, you got it right. these cars were not for the regular middle class family trying to keep their family in a new house, feed and raising the kids. big lincolns were made for highway travel. i’m sure regular folks back then looked toward these big cars with envy. same as they do now……. !

i seem to disagree with you. the mark 4 has plenty of leg room. of course if your a 7 foot basketball player or 350 pounds, you might find the back seats a bit tight. back seat room can b extended by moving the front seat a bit closer.

No no no these cars were known for no legroom in the rear. I’m 5’9” and felt 7 ft in this car and my uncle who was 5’4” had no room. Like I said these cars were known for no room in rear-or crunch the guy in front seat by moving front seat up-take your pick.

My parents wanted one of these, especially because of the opera windows. I remember looking at a couple of them at the car lots. They were about $10,000, which was an incredibly expensive car back then.

    Beautiful car.

Wow! Bilsteins on a Mark IV! I bet the handling was improved by a ton. I know what those 46MM shocks did/do for motor homes. I’m betting Lou had a very pleasant surprise driving this after the shock install.

Pictures appear to be two different cars, unless the top was removable. Some pictures it’s white, others it’s a dark brown. Or am I the only one that noticed that. Or commented upon noticing it instead of throwing accolades.
