UK Garage Cat: 1969 Jaguar E-Type

Reader Pete M. came across this 1969 Jaguar E-Type Convertible garage find here on eBay.uk. This topless cat has been parked in this Surrey garage for a long time and as a result, is in rough shape and will need a complete restoration. It was built and exported for use on this side of the road, but then imported back to its birth place.

The interior is about gone, as are the floors. This is going to be a costly and challenging restoration. I can’t help but wonder if this one wouldn’t be best used as a parts car? It would be a shame to see such a beautiful machine parted out though.

The 4.2 liter straight six is complete, but looking rough. The seller doesn’t state whether the engine turns or not, so assume the worst. In its prime, this finely balanced engine was putting out about 250 horsepower and 260 pounds of torque. In it’s current state, it’s good for nothing more than a boat anchor.

While all the original pieces appear to be there, everything is going to need to be rebuilt. Rust is a major issue for this Jag and could make it difficult to justify restoring it. Hopefully there is someone out there that sees some potential here and will save it from further decay. Special thanks to Pete M. for his submission!

It’s always a mystery to me, who neglects a classic car to this degree? This one looks like it’s been buried since the 70’s!!!

As of 05/24, it at least has one bid, probably from a bloke across the pond.. $13,228.

This is a $500.00 parts car and that’s being generous

The rims, if complete are worth more than that untouched. Cleaned, rechromed & complete an easy 2K. Then ya got the steering wheel, carbs etc. IMO

Whenever it was put away it was worth protecting better than that.

Whomever is responsible for this mess couldn’t even use the official tape (of the poorly repaired) – everyone knows it’s supposed to be Duct tape and not Masking tape for keeping a trunk lid closed!!

It would take a very committed person to buy this for restoration, but unfortunately the numbers don’t make sense, even for the committed. As a ’69 this is too late to bring the big money that the early cars bring, and even if it sells near the opening bid there’s not enough value in the car to make it nice without going way underwater.

OTOH, it looks like parting it out would make financial sense at the opening bid if you do all the work yourself, clean things up thoroughly, and spend the time to market the parts effectively. But it’s in the UK……

    Me, I’d rather be driving.

sorry to say just good for parts. Way to much rust in the body to make it worth while to fix. If it was a 67 might make more sense but not a two carb smoged 69. The body on the E was the frame so to fix this one would be a major job.
Would love to have my 67 back.

Seems these days everyone gets a hardon after watching the prices on Barrett Jackett auctions and want to sell there own rustbucket for an outragious price. It’s like being a kid in a candy store with no control and people will buy and seller will sell!!

As sad as it is this is a parts car at best.

Least expensive route would be to remove the radiator cap and slide a decent Jag underneath it. You would think the seller would at least pump up the tires and remove the masking tape unless it holds the car together.
